Americans are not ignorant they are arrogant...if team USA is not good or winning, US does NOT like that and they will NOT watch the game since THEIR team is losing...that is why we inveted AMERICAN football so we can DOMINATE the sport since we suck so bad in the football the whole world is playing...
trust me if team usa goes deep in this tourney then the whole god dam country will be all over the world cup glued to the TV like the ice hockey game during the winter olympics we just had....
we are sore losers, if we are not winning we bash the sport and call it boring or its not a real sport or its for poor people...we are a democracy and preach EQUAL rights...we have a game that ALL people can play and since we suck at it we bash it...
another issue the US has is obesity...americans are lazy fat asses that live off other countries expences...what we have here in the states, we believe is NORMAL and we are spoiled by it...and since most the people in our country our way out of shape to play this game, they hate it even more...
and all this talk about draws...get over it...its the god dam GROUP STAGE aka QUALIFIER for the round of 16...its not winner takes all YET, this is the format they have been using forever and it works just fine so once again GET OVER IT! i think the gamblers hate this the most since they cant pick winners when it was either team A or B now you have a draw involved making your odds of winning any bet 1 out of 3 instead of just team A or B
if you dont like draws then dont watch the group stages and just watch it when the round of 16 starts...its just like in golf if u dont like the fact there is NO winner on THURSDAY, FRIDAY or SATURDAY, then just watch it on SUNDAY!
STOP BASHING THE SPORT, if you dont like it then GO AWAY cuz the REST OF THE WORLD is LOVING IT!!

Soccer is the most popular sport in the world for three very
important and very social reasons:
The vast majority of the planet is (comparatively) poor. Not just
poor, but dirt poor. So poor that clothes are a luxury. About half the
planet lives this way, so it comes to pass that the most cherished form
of social recreation is the one needing the least amount of upkeep,
maintenance and investment. Soccer is the only sport in the world that
needs next to nothing to play. All you need is a ball and, in some
cases, not even that. Where a ball isn't available, use what's handy,
like a sheep bladder, or a dog skull, or some rags wrapped together, so
long as it can roll. And you can play it anywhere. In dirt, grass,
gravel, any place where there is a flat surface, and hell, it's not
really mandatory that the surface be completely flat. People will
make-do with just about any locale. That makes it the most universal
sport, accessible to every class, caste, and social status on the
planet.
The vast majority of the planet is (comparatively) stupid. As
a result, the form of recreation most appreciated is the one that's
easily understood by everybody; a game so simple that you can explain it
to a retard while standing on one foot. There is really only one rule:
Don't use your hands. Everyone can learn that. Everyone can understand
that. It's the one sport that easily crosses language and cultural
boundaries due to its simplicity. If you were sent to a foreign planet
with instructions to teach the aliens one earth game, without knowing
anything about their language, customs or culture, the one game you
could teach them is soccer. Just think how far you'd get trying to
explain the rules of football or hockey to foreigners who don't
understand your language. Soccer doesn't have this problem. It is the
one sport that transcends language, culture, race, and intelligence.
The vast majority of the planet is (comparatively)
untalented. Many sports require a certain level of coordination and an
innate set of complex skills that need to be applied to enjoy them at an
optimum level. Hitting a small flying ball, skating, throwing,
tackling, catching. But anyone can kick a ball. Soccer is the one sport
in the world that requires the lowest level of physical commitment to
enjoy it on a personal level. It takes practically no time to learn how
to play, and even less time to enjoy playing it. That makes it perfect
for the most uncoordinated and unathletic people on the planet. It is
perfect for the athletically optimal and sloven alike.
great write and agree to most other than soccer also "require a certain level of coordination and an
innate set of complex skills that need to be applied to enjoy them at an
optimum level." Kicking the ball is not much harder than throwing a ball, whether one can kick/throw with precision and control is what differs as a striker/pitcher/quater-back and an average joe playing catch. Just not being to use your hands sets this sport quite apart. Teamwork is another essential element it shares with other major sports.

Here is the thing. Yes football (soccer) is simplistic, a ball, twigs and game on but it brings hope to nations who have nothing. Football transcends sports, and if you have any humanity you'll see the value in it. Now for the big fat beer belly Americans who can't understand why it is beautiful, it's simply called ignorance. You assume because blood doesn't fly or goals don't amount to 50+ it's not challenging or exciting. But if you take yourself and go to a local match, or whatever with a bunch of teenagers and play the sport, you'll see it is a lot more difficult and competitive than you think. Ignorance is bliss, and I think people fail to realize the sophistication in the sport.

One other thing, in every country people follow sports that their country is good at, for example we could have 10000 more soccer world cup but South Africa is rugby and rugby is South Africa.....in Croatia one of the most popular sports is handball cuz they were the world champions, in Hungary it is waterpolo and so on and so on......then why so much discontent about the unpopularity of soccer in the United States ''just because'' you are not the best at it.........rubbish....Professional sport is about results....to be the best at what you do, so ofcourse baseball is not popular in Serbia or Croatia, football in France, Germany and England, Handball in South Africa and so on.......so many people preaches about diversity and respecting it but then those same people are furious if people in every country in the entire world don't bow their heads to soccer.....
