stupid comment, if you're offside in throwball, a flag is thrown, you can't have strikers (sorry offensive players so you stupid yanks understand the terms) just hanging outside the opposition penalty area.

Bollox-anyone familiar having played or watched soccer/hockey would get this concept-a bit difficult for some people to understand-you would just have someone parked at the net

Offside is fine, albeit often quite controversial. As an example, has anyone seen the replay of France's first goal (vs Denmark) because from the 1st replay they looked offside and then Fox never showed another replay?
However the biggest problem with soccer IMO is how often penalty shots are awarded to players who are in absolutely no position to score (often back to the net). Some penalties are quite obvious but these outliers are so illogical... unless you have them take the penalty from the spot of the foul so then this gray area would be a little more fair. A penalty inside the goal box should be awarded from the traditional penalty spot.

The offside rule needs to be changed. Not a complete overhaul but it needs some adjusting. The current rule isn't working. There's goals being disallowed because the player's pinky is offside. That's absolutely ridiculous. The current offside rule slows the game down and doesn't let these incredibly talented players use their great skills. Time for a change.

Eliminating offsides would not change the sport much IMO. What is the singlemost, biggest difference between Soccer/Football and all other major sports? You CAN'T USE YOUR HANDS. No other major sport in the world has this limitation. Thus the game will always be low scoring, because you have to run/stop/cut/pivot with the same appendages that you need to shoot/pass with. Removing offsides might open up midfield play a bit, but nothing would be different once you get near the goals.
Given that it is still the most popular sport on the planet, why would you change anything?

@docpj72
Can’t compare offsides in hockey to offsides in soccer imo. There is a clearly marked zone in pucks so it’s always the same and not really open to interpretation

Best post yet on the subject. what do you experts have to say to this? Bollox?Diamond? Half a body lean is offsides. That just seems excessive. Adjust this simple rule and the game opens up. No one would be parked at the net. You could make the rule that as long as there is no open space when the player starts his run then its onsides. As long as some part of the body is overlapping the defensive line. If you can see grass then offsides. Something like that

ok, this thread does need some intelligent comment.
it used to be (before VAR), the attacker was given the benefit of the doubt and you saw more goals given, then VAR was introduced to stop scandalous decisions being given by linesman who need glasses, now with VAR if you're an inch offside, you're offside but if you say thats too much, where do u draw the line, is a foot ok, then what. In throwball, everyone has to be behind the line of scrimmage, same principle in football.
The game would be chaos if there was no offside and even though some of these decisions are maddening, its better than 10 years ago when somebody scores and they were offside by 2 yards.
oh and the game is rigged of course

All right I'll add a comment. You need the offside rule otherwise there would be no game flow that makes the sport what it is. Otherwise it would all be long balls into the penalty area. Imagine a football game where its just hail Mary's every play.
The only set piece you can be called offside is a free kick and I would be open to getting rid of that rule. This gets rid of the stupid line movement by defenders in effect placing attackers offside (AKA Offside trap) at the moment when a free kick is struck.
