Argentina - Belgium: Pick: Belgium X2 @ 1.73(2/10) and Belgium advances @ 2.62(1/10)
Time to just lock this one in already before it lose the value, I believe more and more people will place money on Belgium which will see their odds drop more towards kickoff. Argentina faced a similar foe in Switzerland, where we could see their troubles. This is an upgraded version of the Swiss team they will face in Belgium who proved their real side for the first time this tournament. The Belgians match up on nearly every aspect with the Argentinians. Defensively the edge goes to Belgium, where they have the better D-line and keeper. Midfield wise the Belgians have all the chances in the world to win the battle. Attacking wise, sure - Argentina have the firepower but they have not exploded yet. Another 0-0 game? Not very likely but this is a meeting of two very technically gifted teams, but I see Belgium being more of a complete unit overall, while Argentina have too many flaws in the back end where Belgium can use their flair and creativity to cause damage. Physically, give the edge to Belgium as well for set pieces with their tall guys. Another marathon game? Likely so, but if anything I give the edge to the Belgians over the Argentinians. Thereof the one unit on them to advance as well. Argentina have been to me - perhaps the biggest disappointment so far among the giant teams, so I do not read into the name of "Argentina" or "Messi". It just doesn't bite.. ____________________
France - Germany: Pick: Germany to advance @ 1.73(2/10)
Sure Germany weren't impressive against Algeria, but neither was France who conceded way too many chances versus Nigeria who kept the game close for long. France have been impressive so far excluding the last game, and the same goes for Germany. The matches revealed some secrets though - when it comes to France, they had rough periods against Nigeria, especially defensively where they looked sloppy and made it look to easy, and against Germany this will be much more punishable. Germany always play well, being in command of their games but their issue has been to finish their attacks with efficiency against teams sitting back. France will not sit back either, so I can imagine this being a much end-to-end game, however there is something with this German mentality where you just have the trust in them all the time and this is really difficult to wreck for any team. The German winning mentality is strong, this is a game where the term "The German Machine" can be justified, and I certainly think so. The Germans are more of a unit, and they are due some success in these tournaments. France have talent as well but it's a pity for them to clash together with Germany when it matters this much. I have been impressed by both teams excluding their last matches, but when there is a semifinal in the pot - look for Germany to provide the best game of the tournament and get all their quality displayed.

My problem with Germany is that Neuer had to come out of the box (or whatever you can the penalty kick area) 18 times. I don't know if Germany will fix that for the next match or France doesn't have the speed to be able to exploit that, but that was a high risk, huge weakness from the prior match.

Neuer Saved Germany by doing what he did as Algeria was hoping for that speed to give them an edge...It was in the game plan to be the sweeper keeper for that match.

I know Neuer did an extraordinary job. Personally I thought he did better than Howard.
But was that really the GAME PLAN? Relying on your goalkeeper to race 30 yards to defend where he can't touch the ball with his hands? I thought Neuer did that because his fullbacks were slow as molasses and he had to do it.
I can't see that being the strategy vs France.

He did state that was in the pre-game plan. To stay up high. I don't think you will see that v France who are not a counter attacking side. Lahm needs to be back there & not in midfield..sometimes I wonder what Low is smoking

@bet-lag - depends on the price you get on +1 AH, if you get 1.95 on that I'd go for it. Anything pick that leans towards Colombia in this game with odds of 1.80 or higher is good enough to me, I expect Brazil to struggle once again

The Flu thing, regardless of how "bad" it is - I think the players will play no matter what.. this is a semi final and some "symptoms" are not going to make Germany put aside 5-7 players in a semi final..personally not reading too much into it. Think of it this way - Gary Medel and Vidal from Chile, both played their hearts out against Brazil WITH injuries, but because of the importance of the games, they played. It shall take a lot for players not to participate in these huge occasions. Personally not letting all the flu-hype writings change my mind.
The Colombia rise - doesnt bother me either, just more value - great. Brazil have not played in a way that intimidated anyone, good value on Colombia.

Bigger bet in order to squeeze the last winnings out of this tournament. It is getting close to and end, and.. towards the end I tend to increase the stakes if there are reasons to - and there are..
Brazil - Germany: Pick: Germany to qualify @ 1.90 (4.5/10)
Germany to qualify, I am feeling good about this one and thereof the higher stake. No need of making an insightful analysis really, as all the games so far have been pretty much dramatic into the last seconds, so here is another nail biter. I just reason like this: Brazil are forunate to be where they are, they have faced several tricky opponents, dark horses kind of teams, but never a serious legit contender like Germany. Plus, Brazil without Neymar is like taking away Suarez from Uruguay - if not greater. Moreover, Thiago Silva being suspended - this is also a weak spot fro Brazil. I can not mention one match where I have said "wow, Brazil really impressed" and now it comes down to Germany, a serious contender who have so much depth, and have played fine - better than Brazil so far during the tournament. A German team longing for success should be able to battle down a Brazilian team with huge handicap with Neymar being gone, after all - he has carried this team all the way to the semi's pretty much. How will the match picture look like? It is unnecessary to speculate in, my money are on Germany to advance, whether it goes to penalties or not, I do not read into that. Neuer is a better keeper than Cesar, and the German machine is ready for the host nation. Money on the table, let's get it.

Netherlands - Argentina: Pick: Netherlands to advance @ 2.15 (2/10)
Well I won't even mention the incredible German game, but moving on to the next match, here is a spot I like for the Dutch. You can not compare the Germany v Brazil game with this one, because it won't be as crazy but I just think European teams are really hard for South American playing styles to deal with. The technical small tic-tac passes doesn't work against well organized teams and tactical teams like Germany, Netherlands and several European sides. Argentina have not impressed so far and have not faced a "giant" yet - just like Brazil had not faced a giant before Germany, and we saw the outcome. Not saying this will go the same way, but I have to give the edge to Netherlands. There is just as much skill in the Dutch team like in the Argentinian team, who will be without Di Maria (a big disadvantage to me). People can say "Messi" how much they want, I don't buy it - Netherlands it is for me, way more value with regards to what the teams have performed so far.
