in my street lives a young woman from S Africa who lost her entire family , and who would be dead as well had she not been studying here in the USA

Yes, there are places there now that you do not want to go at all.  It did not use to be like that.  

But it is so easy to victim-blame.  But some of those white folks where there first in the area and developed it.  Now they are having it stolen and it is being destroyed and the land  is going back into decay.
