your an idiot if you hedge
I'd love to know what drove you to say this given he's 2 games away from 100K and hedging is a no-brainer...
20th game:
a) he picks team A in Survivor
b) he picks team B as a separate bet with his bookie or whatever to win 10K
scenario A: He loses Survivor, he wins 10K
scenario B: He loses 10K, he wins Survivor #20
if he wins game #20...
21st game:
he picks team A in survivor
he picks team B as a separate bet with his bookie or whatever to win 25K
Scenario A: Team A wins & he wins Survivor pick #21 and gets his 100K
Scenario B: Team B wins & he wins his 25K
If he wins survivor, his total cost of hedging is 35K.
If he loses survivor, he wins 35K. At what cost? nada! That's the beauty of it. This contest did not cost him a penny.
There is no way he should come out of this at least 35K richer if he follows what I said. This is a LOCK!!!! lol
Think about it and tell me who's the idiot ||confused.gif' border=0>

That should be 10K, not 35K actually. My bad - knock on wood but if he loses #20 at least he's got 10K.
If he gets to 21 and another knock on wood:
-10K(he wins survivor 20 and loses his 10K separate bet)
deduct from
+25K (he loses survivor 21 and wins his 25K separate bet)
= 15K

I think the best option would be to place $1 on your first pick & let it ride. With money line of -110 you would have over $175,000 after your nineteenth win.

if you hedge you aren't playing for $100,000
LOL Still not getting it are ya?
The aim here, at this point, is to walk away with guaranteed money. It's really that simple.
Who cares if you walk away 50K instead of 100K. Would you really rather risk winning 100K and losing it all or guarantee yourself money?
Confidence has nothing to do with this. It doesn't make you win money. It just makes you feel better about that play you're about to make.
Got that? lol

10 grand to blow to a bookie
Hey Old-timer lol
Well there's the problem right there. You're not seeing past the "blown money".
Don't get me wrong. I feel Patrick will make it but what if he doesn't? Will he be walking away with anything more than the grand he's won and some goodies?
It's not even a debate at this point but that seems to be the case. ||confused.gif' border=0>

The thing is you have to take taxes into account. That 100,000 will be taxed at around 32% so it's only 68,000. With that said I'm walking away with a minimum of 10,000. Whoever said hedging isn't an option is a liar or just plain stupid.

This is pretty damn interesting....I'm guessing it all comes down to how wealthy you are to start. For all the ham & eggers here like myself, guaranteeing 35K is a no-brainer. To wipe out some credit card debt, pay off a house/car etc. in one easy action is too good to pass up. On the other hand...if you are already a big-timer, the thrill and rush of taking the all-or-none is probably what would drive you.
