I have been playing survivor for almost 2 1/2 years and all that I have is a .500 record. Thank you Tigers (last night) and Royals (today) for showing up. This game has proven to be very easy to lose and very hard to win.

Has anyone ever noticed that when someone (whether It's a pro handi capper or an amateur one like myself) says a pick is a five star or can't miss play, then that play almost always loses? Strange thing, that. ROYALS -116 = LOSS.

Very easy to lose indeed, my friend.

I agree it's very easy to lose. The key I'm beginning to believe is to go beyond the numbers. We have to look at other factors like BamaBilly said before. Weather, travel all these things contribute to wins and loses.

Well said, Smooth. Here is a link to some excellent articles detailing strategies for late regular season NBA capping (irrelevant now I know, but good stuff anyway) as well as Playoff NBA capping. https://www.toplestotals.com/ There is also a great article there about early season MLB capping and perhaps the most useful article is the one they have about line movements.

Here is another epiphany! Wow, two in one day! The idea is to look at the MLB standings (here is the best place to do that, IMO https://espn.go.com/mlb/standings ). I know that this is pretty much just common sense, but what we want to do is look at the teams with nice winning streaks and those with bad losing streaks and try to find the best matchup of hot versus cold teams. This may make us pick a team with a worse record that is playing better now, but that is why we find the value. They also list teams records over the last 10 games. The other things on their standings page that I find valuable are the listings of RS (runs scored), RA (runs against), and differential. This is excellent for total picking as well as finding out who is blowing out opponents and who is just barely squeaking out wins. We will continue, of course, to use all of our normal strategies involving thing like. pitching matchups. Also, we cannot underestimate the power of playing at home. Common stuff, I know, but I hope this helps.

I just wanted to add that Covers MLB Standings page has some excellent information that ESPN does not. We should use both to get the BIG picture. https://www.covers.com/pageLoader/pageLoader.aspx?page=/data/mlb/standings/2011/league/standings.html

Yes they have been available. I think sometimes you guys forget they're rotating picks constantly. For Hockey I notice that you have to wait till morning before they post.

Speaking of NHL. I have an angle that I have been playing for years. I don't know if I would call it fool proof but it's probably around 80% winner. Its only for the Playoffs and it involves the classic teams and its only when they play each other in the Playoffs. Montreal, Boston, Detroit, Chicago, Toronto (when they make it) NY Rangers and the Flyers. Now I know the Flyers aren't part of the original 6 but I throw them in anyway. The reason I didn't bring this up before because I didn't trust Montreal. I think they have played subpar this year and I remember when Boston blew them out 7-0 earlier. But the play is simple. When these teams face each other in the Playoffs bet the Under. It's not a guarantee but come Playoff time you will win 80% of these matchups. This year both games have come Under the number. So with that said Boston-Montreal Under tonight! Bank it!

I spoke the other day about the annual tradition of top NHL teams being thrown out in the 1st round by lower seeded teams. As we enter Game 3's. Three strong candidates have emerged for this dubious distinction. Candidate #1 Boston. Montreal basically has owned Boston for the past 2 years winning 6 out of 8 regular season games. Throw out that 7-0 shellacking that Boston gave them and it's been all Montreal for the most part. Montreal now has a commanding 2-0 lead and they head home to finish the job. Break out the brooms Boston is in trouble. Candidate #2 My very own San Jose Sharks. It's an annual tradition for the Sharks to have all the talent in the world only to get trounced in the 1st or 2nd Round. The way they look Saturday against the Kings it looks like this might be a classic 1st round exit. I hope I'm wrong but that was some uninspired Hockey on Saturday. Candidate #3 The Philadelphia Flyers. Now this is a surprise but if you know Buffalo, they have a history of wiping out higher seeds in the Playoffs. Philadelphia better get its act together or they could be watching the Playoffs from the Bahamas ( not a bad idea actually). So in conclusion keep these candidates in mind if you're betting or risking your streaks on Hockey. Stay thirsty my friends!

Miss a that early golden pick this morning the OVER 9.5 in Boston. but DONT like playing totals. Aite I like Philly +9.5 tonite. Think they got confidence more ways than 1 when they feel they should have stole that Game 1. I also like the Canadiens +100 tonite.

Great picks and info, Getrdonrite, Quad, and Smoothd! I like 'em all. Thanks for the good hockey total info, smooth. I am late to the party, but I am going with the Chicago Bulls -11.5 tonight. It is a total fanatic pick since the Bulls are my favorite team, but there are some good reasons to support it. I believe that that Chicago stood up to Indiana's best haymaker in game 1 and still won by five. The Pacers certainly cannot be expected to shoot at a 46.5% clip from the field and make 10 of 18 threes again. The Bulls will adjust and return to their strong defensive form. The Bulls beat the Pacers by 21 and 1Chicago is 25-11 ATS off a home win this season, and 23-9 ATS after a game where they failed to cover the spread this season.9 points in their two previous home games against the Pacers. Even with the cover in game 1, the Pacers are just 13-24 ATS as a road underdog of 6.5 to 12 points over the last 2 seasons. Finally, The Pacers defense has no answer for Derek Rose. He will score at will and look for the rest of the Bulls players to step up their shooting, as well. DA BULLS -11.5 also I am taking Montreal on SFTC

I don't like the fact that Boston is up 2-0 on the road here. I would feel more comfortable if it 1-1 then both teams settle in for a defensive struggle. Now with Montreal down 2-0. They will be forced to open up and score which will lead them more vulnerable to Boston's counterattack. I am afraid that unless Montreal just shuts down offensively we might be lucky to get a push out of this.
