I usually don't post much but follow along on several of the threads.
Here are two NHL systems I use which have worked the last few years:
System 1: I piggybacked off of the SFJustice and AllisonRoads MLB Shutout system but modified it to avoid paying a lot of juice and getting into long chases. Here is how I play the NHL shutouts:
1. When a team is shutout I play against them (chase) for two games only. Since most of the losses after being shutout occur in G1 or G2 there is no reason to chase-chase-chase. Right now LAK would be on G7 and WAS on G6. Sometimes you take a loss and let it go.
2. I don't play anything where the juice is over -120 on the team I am betting on. Ex. CLB lost to NYI on 10/20 0-4. Their next game on 10/22 was in MIN where MINNY was -220. Bypass that play. Did not even win on PL.
Tips:
*Look ahead and make sure the team you are betting against is not going to be a huge favorite (especially at home) in G2 just in case you lose G1...unless you are willing to play the PL.
**Don't be affraid to take the underdog and the $$$. People in St. Louis thought I was nuts on Sunday that the Islanders would beat their Blues. Islanders were a +140.
***System is 11-3 so far this season
System 2 is the 1 goal-UNDER
Anytime you have a game where the score ends 1-0, chase each team on the UNDER in their next two games. They don't come up too often but they have been pretty solid.
*Anytime you PUSH it does not count. Replay the team until you have won an UNDER bet or lost 2 games.
Right now the next play is ANA G2 10/29@STL and CHC G1 10/29@WPG.
For each system you can go three games and it seems to be about a 50/50 chance but I just stick to only going 2 games and moving on.
No guarantees, just a few simple ways the NHL has been good to me the past few years.

Sorry, I miswrote one of my tips from the shutout system. It should have read:
*Look ahead and make sure the team you are betting against is not going to be against a huge favorite (especially at home) in G2 just in case you lose G1...unless you are willing to play the PL.
Example: If Columbus gets shutout, you play against them in G1 and Columbus wins, make sure G2 is not in Washington, Montreal or New York-R...I'll skip the play because I want the juice in my favor rather than risking double++ my bet amount.

Are you posting the picks anywhere? I'd love to follow along.
No, after I posted the thread and the first question I received was if I back tested (really?) I decided it was not worth the effort.
Currently there are NO 1 goal chases going on (watch for next game that ends in 1-0). Only teams I am watching in shutout are New York-I on 01/12/16 against CLB (CLB should be good odds as a dog) and possibly Toronto on 01/13/16 (CLB and TOR will probably be close to even odds though). Good luck.

I didn't see your response until today, so I missed out on betting clb last night. So the goal here is 1u columbus last night, 2 unit rangers tomorrow when they play islanders. and then tonight 1u columbus, if it loses bet 2 u on black hawks vs toronto on Friday?
I just want to expose myself to more hockey, and I don't have a good track record so far betting it.

Correct. G2 against NYI on 1/14, so play on NYR-2 units. RIght now both are -110. CLB won against TOR tonight so that play is over.
FLA lost in CAL tonight 0-6. Their next game is @TBL on Jan 17 so the odds will probably be too high for a ML play (PL if you wish but I'll probably not play it.

Thanks for the advice. I'm starting a spreadsheet to track the plays through the rest of the year. If you'd like, I'll post up the plays and results on the thread here? My units are 50$ first game, 100$ second game.
For Instance Tonight I have: 110/100 on NYR ML against NYI 50/52.50 on NJD ML against COL
Saturday: If Col wins tonight, we will have a 100$ play on CLB against Col. Sunday: We will have a 50$ play on TB against FLA, if that loses then on Monday we will have a 100$ play on EDM against FLA.
For the record of how I will report profit, I didn't get a bet in against NYI on G1 which would've lost, so I'm skipping to a G2 bet. I also missed playing against Nash on G1 which would've won so that is also no longer a play.

I did not play against Nashville in Chicago because Chicago was -150 on the ML. If you took the game on the PL you would have lost. The best games in the system are when a decent/good team gets shutout and then has a series of 2-4 (depending on how far you want to chase) potential dogs coming up. I don't like risking a lot of juice on the moneyline and I don't like long chases (usually more than 2 games) because it only takes a few bad beats to dwindle your profits.
However, my original post is just a guideline so tweek it as you need to. Sometimes I make small changes if I see an opportunity.

Colorado got shut out on Tues. Are you playing against them today and taking the Devils??
YES, I am on the NJ Devils tonight. Sorry, I did not get my NHL Shutout spreadsheet updated until this morning so I forgot to mention COL in a post I replied to last night.

I'll keep it at a 2 game chase that I do because I don't like betting more than 100 on NHL since I have no eye for evaluating talent like I (think) I do BBall and Football.
I've also got a sheet set up to record the 1pt game chase under also.
GL tonight guys!

This also makes Nashville a G1 1unit ML play too. Gl all
I am undecided on whether to play against MIN or not. NAS is -130 ML against them and MIN's next game is @ANA. Juice just might be too high and I don't trust the PL. GL

Yay Nashville! I got them at -105 tonight , and didn't even think to look at their next game like a hockey noob! But we hit on both shutout bets and the under! The AZ PL is a loss but typically shouldn't be played, so we won't make that mistake in the future!

Good call on taking NAS tonight! I loaded up on the UNDER. Going against MIN 01/20 could be a play depending on the line...next three of their opponents are on the road at ANA, LAK, and SJS.
