So while waiting for every team to get at least 5 games played (uhmmm...Carolina and a few others), I have been looking at different systems out there and how to implement them onto my spreadsheet.
(Speaking of, NHL just jumped to 31 teams which meant I had to go and search all my formulas that I had set for 30 teams MLB and adjust accordingly...big pain in the rear)
The system in the title caught my eye as it's goal based. If you google the title, you will find the whole page (hint...insiders).
Here's a bit from what the web site says:
"You have to find the league averages for goals scored and goals allowed for home and road teams to get you started, and that is why this theory works much better when you have a larger sample size; ..... It should come as no surprise that the home team scores more goals than the away team, but it isn’t by as much as you would think.
Then you would check out the two teams in the matchup for which you are looking to bet on, and starting with the home team, you would take the number of goals they average on their own ice and divide it into the league average to figure out their percentage compared to the rest of the NHL. You do this for both the goals scored and against, for both the home and away teams.
Once you have the numbers for both teams, you can figure out the number of predicted goals."
I have done this. I'm going to post the team with the better average, and the Dif between the two stats. Let's see how this goes. Hopefully, my copy/paste from my spreadsheet works well.

I checked on googling the title, which takes you to the web site, but you will have to click on same heading right above the Ice Queens to get to the actual system.
I'll see if I can tighten up post #2 but I have to clean house and then go to a wedding today.
As far as power rankings go that I did for MLB, I did find 6 that I will be using. Once all teams have played 5 games, I will be posting the Power and my L5 rankings, then when all teams have played 20, I will add the my L20 rankings.
I have been following a few other systems since the start of the season. Right now, Fading the Public has been killing it (since Oct 9th):
$8.03
Run Line 7 - 4$19.25
Fading the Public...Away Dog where it's getting 40% of the play or less, Money Line.

Going forward, I'm just going to post the teams with the difference, and not put the previous day's win/losses. Soon, with the holidays coming, I won't have time to do it anyways.
Currently, I have anything 1 goal and above a play and am keeping track of the same. If it changes, I will post it here.
I post the current stats for this (and others) here:

San Jose has it's Away game and Minnesota is having it's 5th game today. Tomorrow will be the first day of posts on the other thread. As I said elsewhere, I will be using a point difference of 1 as a play. Washington would be the only play.

Thanks for the Caps win tonight! Can you tell me what website you use to get your stats? I'm tryin to calculate these on my ouwn in case you don't post for some reason.

No SJ/NYI as SJ pitched a shutout yesterday, has not given up a goal Away.
Dog Catcher: I pull team stats from Covers onto my spreadsheet, and it formulates all the information. I just had to make sure I made the correct formula.
I'm going to do another thread. This one has the posts half covered by a gray bar on my screen.
