NHL/MLB GSGA/RSRA Spreadsheet

I have made a new spreadsheet that can be used for both NHL and MLB, plus reused going foward in future seasons.

I will be using a form of this spreadsheet.  I will notice any problems right away and I can fix it. 

I have stopped the power ranking systems and have concentrated solely on GSGA for NHL and RSRA on MLB, plus the parlays for the same.  I have backtest results on the spreadsheet for NHL and this winter I will be doing the same for MLB, done before 2019 MLB season has started.  I will update the sheet then.

NHL starts on Oct 3rd.

I will not be posting any plays on this thread, nor updating the results periodically.  I figured I'd share my work.

I forgot to put one note on the spreadsheet, as far as the parlays are.  The backtests and the current year's parlays in the 2 system tabs don't always recoup the previous losses, that would be why the total amount is so low.  

When I go back and do the MLB backtests, I will see if I can adjust to recoup losses in the 1-8 system.  We'll see then how the system is.

I updated my sheet this morning for NHL and found/fixed a problem.  Anything new will be highlighted in yellow on intro page.  

There will be error values until teams have played at least one road and home game...plus (I think) SCORED once on a road/home game.  Again, any problems I will fix and update right away (except, maybe Sundays as I'm up and off to work right away).

MLB System is complete for the season.

Columns AK to AU of MLB System are all -1.5 Run Line systems, not Money Line.   I had started to get that ready for next year as I had previously kept track of RL Lines and ARL Lines (-1.5 not 1.5).  You can see how well each system did in RL above in rows 2-6, columns AJ - AQ.  I do have a web site that I automated the lines from, I just hadn't put it on this spreadsheet yet.

If you downloaded the spread sheet right after, I noticed an error on the MLB System page at the bottom of Col AN.  If on your new sheet, to the right of Top 2 (row 2084) is #NA, I have fixed that problem.  If it says 12, you're good.

I don't follow -1.5 RL for NHL as, while very successful, you go to leg 25 often.

I just went back to check sheet and found a small problem.  The stats above in MLB systems, rows 2-6, did not have all the plays, they only went to row 2052.  That should be it (I think).

If you have downloaded the sheet TODAY before 843 am (EST) , a few minutes before this post, your new sheet is off a bit, nothing to worry about for this NHL Season.

Updated for a few housekeeping things.  Cleaned up COL G in NHL tab, so you can move over plays in NHL System tab.  Added the first legs in COL V (highlighted in yellow).  I, also, added the time of the games on NHL tab (far right) which I had done for MLB but didn't for hockey.

I hid all MLB tabs as that season is completed.

Spreadsheet has been updated for today (Saturday), so you don't need to do anything after download.

Fixed Top 2 ML on NHL Systems tab, it wasn't pulling on info from NHL Covers tab, resulting in an error as Anaheim was one of the 2 top ml teams.  This would prevent posting below.

New Update. Changed the 3 letter NHL abbreviation to a 4 letter abbreviation.

For this spreadsheet, with both MLB and NHL on it, all teams need different abbreviations.  I changed the similar ones on NHL, but those looked weird to me, so I changed NHL to 4 letters instead.

You don't need to download if you're fine with the abbreviations.

For today, and any other "Day after No NHL"....after you "ADD PLAYS", you need to clear the previous day's "Top 2 ML" (as there wasn't any plays) and then copy and paste the current day's plays from below that row.  You will see that the cleared play will have #NUM! as its teams.  You don't want to delete the row, always copy and paste. 

If you do it properly,you should have 2 of the same play at the bottom, today being Wash and Bost parlay.

This doesn't mean that it's Dan's plays but, according to the system, the top 2 away ML teams at that point Odds was refreshed.  I added it to the spreadsheet as sometimes I may not have time during the day to look up the plays online, but only in the morning when I update the spreadsheet.

These plays are not added into the NHL Systems tab for tracking.

Great job as always. Can you post a updated spreadsheet, with todays plays? Mine is no working anymore. I was out in hospital for few days and when I came back, the debuger opened when I tried to update the sheet to have the plays. And there is always Errors on some plays like the top ml plays.

Today's parlay is Win & Bos

These plays are now added into the NHL Systems tab for tracking. Again, these are not necessarily Dan's plays.  These plays, at the end of the day, are based on Cover's lines.  When you refresh the Odds, the money lines are from Vegas Insider.

I didn't have that. Perhaps, the odds web site wasn't farting around at that time.  Did it work later?

Could someone post Saturday's teams and GSGA numbers? I forgot to Add to system plays yesterday and I have to go to work now.  I have to reconstruct it if I don't have these teams/numbers.

I'm going to fix that on next update...post directly after Covers is updated.

Every update I share is a copy I made from my own spreadsheet.  I just remove a few personal tabs from it.  This copy does work.

This version has it set to automatically post the plays onto NHL System tab (I will do the same for MLB in the spring) as I keep forgetting to post them before the next day.

Along with Dan's plays in NHL tab, I also I have the current Top 2 Money Line parlay plays listed.  With Top 2 (GSGA) plays, all parlay plays are in row 38.  Dan's and Top 2 ML parlays are odds based.  Refresh the Odds button to get current plays.

A reminder that any plays for Dan's parlays (Top 2 RML) on the sheet are NOT official plays for Dan's thread, just a guide for a possible play.  Also, on the NHL System tab, the Top 2 RML are not necessarily Dan's plays either but based on the final Covers lines.

I'll look into it and make a fix. Probably the easiest way would be to just hide the sheet instead of deleting it...erasing my info, instead.  Plus, everyone could just manually add their info onto it if they desire.

My Plays is my personal sheet that I delete on every update as it has my own plays from wagers I make on my online wagering site.  I can copy and paste from that site onto this sheet and when I update, it posts the wins and losses and adjusts my bankroll.

As a reminder to all, as there was only one game last night....on the NHL Systems tab, don't delete the rows for the parlays (Top 2, Top ML and Top RML), but just copy the GSGA plays for today on top of them.  Yesterday should only have the GSGA play of San Jose. 

New update includes the My Plays tab that was causing a problem for at least one person.  I have left instructions on how to use.  I have been using a variation of it for a few years for my bankroll.  When I update in the morning, this page also gets updated...I don't have to go searching for scores.  It's done just like the Systems tabs.

It's odd on how the structure is to add your plays but that's cause its set to accept my copy and paste from my web site I use to wager.  

I have a new update coming that will streamline the odds but in the mean time, a quick fix.

The rotation numbers for NHL has changed.  What used to be 50s and 60s are now in the 30s/40s.

Go to NHL Odds tab and in Col AO and starting in Row 82 start numbering down from 35 to 45.  They've really messed things up and I have had to revamp it all.  The good thing is that I have figured out a different way to pull the odds from VI and it will be an almost instantaneous update (depending on your connection).

The new update will not depend on a certain rotation number but be based on the smallest to largest number.  Again, anything I do for NHL will also be done for MLB, maybe not right away.

After I post the new update, you can copy your "My Plays" tab into the update. You just need to change your current workbook's name before you download the new copy, as not to copy over your current work.

Updated the NHL Odds tab.  The rotation numbers normally used are different, as I stated in post #23.  The odds are now pulled from a query instead of from a macro.  This will make updating the odds quicker.  I noticed that I am able to do that for the Covers tab also (using queries instead of a macro.  However, each team would need to have it's own worksheet (including MLB) and I needed to get this out today.

I also fixed where if you had a dog play the team wouldn't post below in My Plays tab.

When I try to update the file, theres window popping for debugging for the query. Is it possible that came on because I use excel 2007?

Yes.  The one I use is the newest Excel 365/2016 one.  Your version didn't have the query.  A fix coming.

I didn't delete the old version, just changed the name and hid it.  Unhide NHL Odds1.  What you're going to do is put "1" in certain areas.  Save your copy, so if there's a screw up, you can just exit out and not save it...restart again.  I don't recall that version well so I hope my directions work for you.

Get into Visual Basic.  For me, that's under Developer to the left. Click on Data Module.  Scroll down to UpdateNHLOdds1 ().  Halfway down, change NHLOdds.Range("A2").PasteSpecial xlPasteValues to NHLOdds1.Range("A2").PasteSpecial xlPasteValues (adding the 1).

In Support Module, right at the top, add "Global NHLOdds1 As Worksheet" and under SetWorksheets () add "Set NHLOdds1 = Worksheets("NHL Odds1")". You can copy and paste without the quotes right into VBA.

Still in VBA, click on Sheet9 (NHL) and change in Private Sub All_Click () ....halfway down

Call UpdateNHLOdds to Call UpdateNHLOdds1

and in Private Sub Odds_Click()

Call UpdateNHLOdds to Call UpdateNHLOdds1

Now, go into NHL Odds1 and CLEAR NOT DELETE Column B.  Notice in the shaded area Col AO are the rotation numbers, top two at 35.  Changes these to 1 and 2 to complete the sequence. If any rotation numbers on any website aren't in any of the shaded area of AO, make the change on AO.  

Still not saving, go into NHL tab and click on Odd.  If everything shows up properly, I remembered everything and you can save now. I will be doing the same update for MLB.  Do the same fix for that sport when it happens.  I named all macros similar between NHL and MLB so you just have to sub MLB for NHL. Let me know if any more problems. 

I had completed the backtests for MLB which will include the -1.5 parlay plays.  Then I noticed numerous discrepancies on the worksheet/template I use. 

I have to go back and redo all calculations for each year.  Plus, being this template was a copy from NHL, the backtests from that sport are incorrect too.  I will go back and correct NHL.  The good thing is that I made the formulas for the -1.5 parlays and I will add NHL's -1.5 backtest to the sheet.
