Lippsman computer question

Question

I was doing an scan of my computer for drivers and i found 4 on my sis chipset that need updating.&#xD;&#xA;1. agp =sis acceleration graphic port&#xD;&#xA;2.ide = sis ide controller&#xD;&#xA;3.audio =7012 audio controller&#xD;&#xA;4.lan= sis fast ethernet controller.&#xD;&#xA; &#xD;&#xA;my question is updating these drivers a good idea and will it help my computer any?  I downloaded the updates but didnt install any yet, because i was afraid it might screw up the computer?  Will it and if so can how do i go back from these drivers.&#xD;&#xA;Thanks&#xD;&#xA;Cd

If you do this, make sure to create a restore point first. If you are not having any problems I wouldn't update the drivers. From what I see, none of them will really help you out that much. Again, unless you happen to have problems with the above mentioned drivers.

Lippsman,&#xD;&#xA; am having no problems at all and just thought the ethernet driver might speed my internet connection, same with graphics one.&#xD;&#xA;I guess its better not to try and fix something that aint broke.&#xD;&#xA;Thanks&#xD;&#xA;cd

Lippsman&#xD;&#xA; &#xD;&#xA;I got a pc question as well. I&#x27;ve been running Vista for the past year already and have noticed only minor irritable issues. Anyhow currently my home pc is booting up very very slow. Sometimes it can take up to an hour&#x27;s time. &#xD;&#xA; &#xD;&#xA;Anyhow when it does finally boot up, often time it fails to recognize my cd-rom. The cd-rom works perfectly fine when it is recognized. &#xD;&#xA; &#xD;&#xA;Do you recommend I just get rid of Vista and go back to XP or replace the cd-rom? (Have had to replace the cd-rom roughly twice in the last few years).&#xD;&#xA; &#xD;&#xA;Hate having to reformat my harddrives, but may have to do so. &#xD;&#xA; &#xD;&#xA;Thanks in advance.

tuxman&#xD;&#xA; &#xD;&#xA;About 1.5 of RAM..........I realize it&#x27;s preferred at 2.0 for Vista, but just recently has my pc acted this way.&#xD;&#xA; &#xD;&#xA;Went back to an earlier restored point and it&#x27;s working better, but still not satisfactory imo.&#xD;&#xA; &#xD;&#xA;Thanks for any advises.

The strangest part is it boots up perfectly fine after I just open and close the CD-rom tray.&#xD;&#xA; &#xD;&#xA; and

Sounds like you have some major registry corruption there.  You can do a repair install.  Or better yet, if you can get ahold of Norton Systemworks run that.  It&#x27;s a great program, just make sure you run it from the cd instead of installing it.  It will clean up your registry very well.
