All of a sudden my computer cannot play any movies. I have tried all differnt kinds of video players and none will start the movie up.
I notice that before i try to play the movie my cpu usage is at around 6 percent, but has soon as i try to play the movie it jumps all the way up to 100 percent and am sure this is the problem, but what i cant figure out is why the cpu is jumping to 100 percent when trying to play a movie.
I have spent a few hours on the net trying to search for answers and havent come up with anything.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Could be a virus or spyware attached to your movie files. First things first, do a complete spyware and virus scan.
Lippsman, I think i found the problem but i dont know why this would cause the problem.
I put my old video card back in the system and the movies are playing fine. I have tried 2 newer video cards and neither one will play movies and cpu usage goes to 100 percent. On the old video card cpu only went up to around 50 percent.
All 3 video cards are nvdia's.
The old card is a 5500 model with 128mb and the 2 new ones are a 6200 with 256mb and 7300 with 512mb. Would the increase of size of the video card cause this problem? I can play videos from like you tube, but any movie that i put in the computer just wont start up. There cant be anything wrong with the 2 new cards or else i would have no picture. I just downloaded all the latest drivers for the new cards and still no luck.
What do you think is happening to cause this? am stumped and dont want to put old card back in, as the fan is making all kinds of noise and driving me nuts.

I fixed the problem. I read some messageboards and they said to go back to an older driver or update the chipset drvers on my motherboard. So i rolled back to an older driver and everything is fine now.

One of the biggest problems I see is when someone upgrades thier video card. Hardly anyone ever uninstalls the old video card before they install the new one. Causes a boatload of problems, which you also had.
Not sure if this is exactly the problem you had but it sure sounds like it.
