My old laptop keeps resetting itself while trying to load Window. A blue screen appears for approximately 1 or 2 seconds and has this long message. I was able to read the first line only, "Window has encountered some problem and will have to shut down. If this is the first time you read this message, please use system diagnostic...."
It keeps resetting itself and the same message keeps appearing over and over again. I was able to log in through safe mode trying to use the system restore function but got another message, "System restore is off. Please log in in normal mode and turn it on."
Does anyone know what's going?
Help please!!!

Most likely it's a hardware error. First thing we always do with this error is put a different stick of memory in it. More times than not that has been the error. Although it could be many different hardware items.
If you take it to Geek Squad you will probably be better off just getting another laptop if it's really that old.
You could order the restore and recover CD's from the laptop maker. If they don't have them they will give you a number where you can order them from.

My laptop is a Dell M140. I assume that the restore and recover CD will fix this problem from what you're saying. Do I need to contact Dell and order it or is there any software out there that can serve this purpose?
Thanks for the quick reply.

Well it could fix the problem if it's really a software issue. In the back of my mind I believe you may have a bad stick of memory. But for the cost of the CD's (about $20 bucks). It's a cheap way to see if it may be the software

I got the disc from Dell and was able to install the Window Recovery disc and the laptop is back to normal, well not yet, I still have to installed all those drivers.
How do I set up the network connection for this laptop? I can't get it to detect the local area network. I was thinking may be because my network adapter is not updated yet but if I do not have internet connection, then how can I update it.
It currently has the 1394 Connection under the LAN or High Speed Internet. I do not see any local network connection.
Please help.
Thanks Lippsman!

Now my desktop is acting up but once in awhile with that blue screen. The error code is different though. It's 00000000016.
Do you know what that mean? I'm concerned that I might need to do the same thing as the laptop to this this computer and with this one, I can't afford to lose any of the program and doc.
Thanks Lippsman!

Thanks CD329 but the program does not work with my system. I guess it does not support system with Window Vista and IE7 and some other programs listed.
If you happen to know any other similar software, please let me know.

Ah, just install your video driver again. You will have a disk that says drivers. Put it in the drive and click on all of the next crap.
On the left side click the drop down box where it says just drivers. Look to the right and scroll down to where the video driver that you use has a check beside it.
Extract and install....then reboot........see what happens after that
