Since Verizon began building a fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) network and transforming to a communications, information and entertainment provider, our competitors have boasted, bragged and in some cases, exaggerated their current and future capabilities for consumers.
Here are the facts:
Our network is, without question, the fastest, most reliable offering in the marketplace.
Today, right now, with the BPON (Broadband Passive Optical Network), we can deliver 100 Mbps to the customer's home and we have customers that experience this speed, although we only market and sell up to 50 Mbps, based on current requirements. We are starting deployment of next-generation GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Network), giving us the capability to deliver data speeds four times faster than the BPON technology allows.
Our network's architecture dedicates space and capacity for every customer and service offering -- FiOS Internet and broadcast FiOS TV products are carried on separate pipes. This is a huge differentiator to cable companies, whose capacity is strained by requirements for Internet bandwidth, and whose Internet performance slows dramatically as additional users access the service.
The ability to provide services to our set top box over Internet Protocol (IP) technology, where it can then be integrated with traditional video using the latest Verizon interactive media guide software, is far superior to any modem out there today or will be in two years or so, which is when the cable companies are promising speeds to the home of up to 150 Mbps.
We are delivering…today. We'll have to stay tuned to see if and when competitors can make good on their claims.
Verizon's Technology team is working faster, developing and testing new applications and services to broaden and deepen the customer's FiOS experiences. Gaming. Education. Healthcare. The possibilities of our network's uses are limited only by the imagination.
