Have always been a pc person but am thinking about getting a MacBook pro to play around with?Anyone have any recommended sites to buy refurb Apple products other than Apple itself?

as long as its refurb-ed by apple or a certified reseller...the risk is negligible...you can get a warranty on it that way

Thanks Lipps, but I wont be in the market for a MacBook Pro anymore..

However, I do have another issue. Seems like the power jack on my laptop might be faulty. It only charges when I hold the power cord in at a certain angle. And since the stock battery sucks, was also thinking about buying a 12-cell knockoff from Amazon or Frys -- but all kinds of differing reviews (even on the HP one). I have a HP G60 -- how hard is it to swap out a power jack? It's supposedly not soldered onto the motherboard

You are in luck, that&#x27;s one of the rare ones that plugs in with a connector.  The pain is getting to it.  You have to take about the whole freaking thing apart. Base that is, not the screen section.  Take everything out, battery, cd-rom, hard drive.  Take every single screw out of the bottom and do a little prying to get the base off.  Also on most HP&#x27;s they fool you with the screws.  There are a couple under the hard drive that you can look right over&#xD;&#xA;Here is a youtube video of replacing it.  I haven&#x27;t watched it, so hopefully

Thanks, watched the video and found the part for a few bucks on Amazon but would be little hesitant to open it up and take everything out. Have some experience working w/ hardware, but have never done that.

That guy charges $69, wonder if he's any good or if I can find someone locally (probably not for the same price though).

I think you could get someone local.  But hell, if you have worked with hardware you could do it. You have the video if you forget something.  The important thing is to make note of what screw goes where.  There are two or 3 different sizes.
