so karmarouge, how do you really feel about the Wii?
I got to try it out at a market research trial about 4 months back, and I liked the controllers and console and it seemed pretty entertaining, I was a little worried about the games staying interesting and keeping you playing and the variety and quality of games looked a little lacking. Also, I can understand people getting tired playing some of these games. This thing is definitely geared for a younger crowd, but I found it interesting enough to consider looking into getting it. The info they were looking for in the market research was not how it compares in performance to Sony/MS consoles and I don't think the system is made as direct competition to those consoles in any way. Nintendo is looking at casual gamers and younger gamers and purposely made it that way. They realize that the MS/Sony consoles are pricing out a specific market and Nintendo is shooting for it with the Wii.
As far as the PS3, even with the blu-ray, I don't see it being some great deal buying a video game system for $500-$600. I have a friend who lives for buying the new system (you name it, he has bought it the first day) and is a hardcore console gamer and he isn't going to buy it when it first comes out unless they lower the price or when it goes down in price. If you ask me, that's a bad sign for Sony if someone like him is going to wait and it shows since it looks like they are lowering the price in Japan already. I used to be a big gamer and really am not anymore, and I'm not blowing $500 on some video game console, it might have great hardware on the PS3, but my PS2 works just fine enough.
Also, I had read somewhere a long time ago that the piracy controls on the PS3 is going to make the resale market non-existant for PS3 games because they will be locked to a console, anybody hear anything more on that? Maybe they stepped back from that after that rootkit fiasco they had with their music CD's

Oh no that is true. In fact they were kicking around you are really only leasing the software from when you are buying it. They claim you can't sell it on ebay.
Yeah, that will stand.

Tell the truth lippsman...You know damn well that this nonsense was scrapped long ago.
jackjaffee: You can not make a judgement like that based on your friend's decision to wait on a price drop. I likewise know several are willing to pre-order the Ps3. Remember that the playstation market is vastly superior to the other two consoles combined. You are bound to get a sect of consumers in the lower income bracket who simply cant afford to pay 500 bucks for a console. I am sure Sony is full aware of this and is banking on the core of their market share being able to afford this unit. One thing i have to say on the issue of the two consoles, xbox and Ps3 i was really dissappointed in the shift from games and the drive to turn consoles into some shitty ass family entertainment centers. This drive germinated from the microsoft side after varios attempts to develop a family media center flopped on them.. ( i forgot the name of that silly little gimmick they came out with and it backfired badly)
Microsoft started this stupid ass drive to make some mythical family entertainment center and Sony, like the idiots they are followed along. I have to say that Sony is also guilty of forcing their blu-ray tech on the public by forcing it onto the Ps3 console. This is one of the issues that makes it unnecessarily expensive. They want to corner the market on the next generation DVds and as such have forced this upon gamers being, that few would be willing to spring for a stand alone hd-dvd or blue ray. Sony wants to give themselves an artificial jumpstart in this format war by forcing this product and hoping it will translate into blu ray sales.
As of recent, there was a release stating that sony is attempting to refocus on the games alone. (Which is the whole point..If microsoft wants to blunder into that bullshit media center territory, Sony should stand aside and let them commit that ritual suicide alone and not panic)
About my hate for the Nintendo, its not so much for the company but the stupidity of the Nintendo fan boys who are too stupid to see the glaring truth. Like that guy cheering because nintendo is gonna sell him a bogus unit not even considered a next generation console (I have the quote from Mark Rein from Epic saying this exact thing and he has looked at all units and his company is making games for xbox and Ps3) In his posts he brags about how nintendo is going to make profits off a cheap rip off (which the Wii really is) as though he is gonna get a check in the mail
I just cant stand a grown man who goes around talking about Mario and friggin Zelda....Silly childrens games that he wants so badly for every one to believe a grown man can play this shit...(yeah, i bet you were a pink little tutu with tights and prance around the house before you settle in for a pokemon friggin playing orgy)

Hell, they were still at the office. Sony's cost is about $850 U.S. per unit. So that's about a $350 hit, on a $500 retail price point.
Pretty much what I thought. Ok, I was $50 off...........
i checked it and you were right, its about 300.. (I was using an old article i read months ago when people were still speculating about the price and that news article had the price at about 1300 to manufacture one PS3....(Again that was an old article i was remembering.

I never saw an official press release about it. Can you link it for me?

So as everyone sees. This wasn't even made to compete with the 360's and PS3's of the world. It's for Nintendo's target market. Just like the Game Cube was made for. Thier target market being kids. Being something afforadable that most any parents can buy for thier children.
I stopped buying consoles after the N-64. I just didn't have the time anymore to really play them. But I have one hell of a collection that some of you may be interested in. I have every console realease from the N-64 on back. I mean every one. Also have most of the extras that go with them.
One of my most favorites is the handheld Turbografx 16 with the TV tuner. (Drool....drool)
Oh also, can't forget about these. Many arcade games setting behind me right now. Warlords, Frogger, Ice Chexx and my prize Captain Fantastic pinball machine to my left............A true Pinball wizard.
