NEW HAVEN - A huge sigh of relief came out of the New Haven Open as four-time defending champion Caroline Wozniacki's knee checked out and she was to go on as scheduled in her semifinal match against seventh-seeded Maria Kirilenko Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. at the Connecticut Tennis Center.
Wozniacki tweaked her knee during the first game of the second set and received treatment from a trainer but returned to the court and easily beat Dominika Cibulkova 6-2, 6-1 in a quarterfinal match Thursday.
Wozniacki, the third-seed who has become the face of the tournament, is attempting to become the first woman to win the tournament five times. Venus Williams also won four times at New Haven.
