Under is more likely to happen when it is raining or there has been a rain delay. Watch at wimbledon, when the rain set in, the match duration was shortened in many of the games and more games went under the spread. Dont count me up on it, but if u can find some statistics i think it will prove my point better. Here are some of the reasons as to why i think more games go under or are more likely to go under when it is either or raining or when games have been delayed due to rain:
1. Less people on the courts watching. Less people means less motivation to win if you are a dog, less reason to prove that you can make things happen.
2. The audience doesnt beg for a match to go 5 sets when it is raining, they dont enjoy watching tennis that much when it is raining and thus they will not cheer for the guy being down. So they dont really care if the guy being ahead wins fast, and i think that it means a lot.
3. When being down in a game small things will kick u even further down. When u are down and it has rained some players will tend to blame it on the rain and they will let the rain ruin the game even more. Its a lot more fun to play when you are ahead. My point here is, if the sun is shining its pretty even for both players, both players love to run around there. When its raining its not really an advantage to either of the players, but when you are ahead it doesnt bother u much that it is raining, but it will if you are behind.
4. The Wimbledon wants the games to end faster so it doesnt mess up with the schedule.
5. Bad players with no experience are not used to be playing on slippery courts, so guys with experience will just kick your behind. U can compare this to the Tour de France. Being infront of the pelleton may be good, but if the weather becomes very windy the pelleton will have an advantage over u, being alone in front will really hurt u. And that applies to being an underdog as well as i see it.
As i said, dont count me up on it, but i think statistics will show that more games go under (or are more likely to go under) after a rain delay.
