Rublev vs Thiem

Any opinions on this game?

I think Rublev will give a better showing than he has in the last few games. 

Rublev +1.5 is tempting. 

Rublev played the exact same way he did the game before last. He's done for the year 

Thiem all day. 

Guys, keep in mind that this match for Thiem is not important.  He already qualified and I think he only needs to win a set to secure the #1 seed in the group.  He may not even need to win a set depending on how Nadal/Tsitsi match goes.  Rublev on the other hand will try and win for sure because he doesn't want to go 0-3 in his first trip to Nitto ATP.  More motivation for Rublev here.

But honestly, i think Rublev is done for the year....gl if u play on him.  I'll prob just sit this useless match out.

 My thinking is that this is Rublev's last match of the year.  He might as well give it all he's got and try and get a win.  For Thiem, he has more important matches ahead of him.  Why waste your energy to try and win a match that's kind of irrelevant.  Anyone who watches Thiem play can see how much effort he puts into his matches.  It's in his best interest to save his energy and not go all out.

So seeding does not matter in this tournament?

I'll stay away and be a spectator from the sidelines (hopefully Djokovic doesn't smack me w/ the ball).

Yes, seeding does matter depending on who the #1 seed is in the other group if you're trying to avoid playing a certain player like Djokovic.

Thiem was completely worn out after the US Open and went into the French Open not being 100%.  That's why he lost to Schwartzman.  

I believe Thiem does need to win a set (not 100% sure) just to ensure the #1 seed in case Nadal or Tsitsipas wins in straight sets in their match.  So, he may just try and win the match depending on how it goes.  

Anyway, I've seen enough of these matches to know that there have been matches in the past years where the player who already qualified did not give it 100% knowing they have other matches to play.

 I think ur smart to step aside, jvar. Its so unusual in tennis to have these kinds of low-pressure matches...maybe Davis cup? No idea how to size these up. Like the Med/Diego comming up.Theres the seeding thing/the save energy thing.....gonna sit on my hands  and try to avoid Joker rage-whacks.

Thiem has a tendency to gift wins to his good buddies in non-essential matches( Last year Buenos Aries to Diego)  & tomorrow shouldn't be any different. Rubev easy-peasy.

This ^ last year Thiem clinched #1 in the group at WTF after two matches and lost to Berrettini and the match only took an hour and 18 minutes 

You guys are killing me!  I jumped on Thiem early at -160 ML.   Rublev choked the last match away and is a total head case.  Now you have me completely doubting this pick, haha.  I think Thiem has too much pride to just lay down for Rublev.   I think Rublev just wants to be done with this tourney at this point.   

can anyone confirm thiem only needs to win one set to secure 1st? The Nadal match is after thiem so I would assume he plays to win the match just to be safe. 

I also agree Rublev is not going to try hard at all 

The real decision is bet thiem to win first set or thiem to win ? 

Pointless match for thiem. But rublev is also a head case. My bet is rublev +1 1/2 set to be safe.
