Really, really impressive performance from Fed last night, but we'll see
some vintage displays from time to time. It's the consistency that he
needs to make another slam run. Can he repeat another solid match
against Murray? Not so sure.
Had some luck in earlier matches so
it was only a matter of time before I got snake bit. Murray served for
the straight sets win, only to get broken, had a 6-4 lead in the
tiebreak as well, squandered 4 match points in both cases. C'est la vie.
0-1 -1
(YTD 16-3 +31.39)
2* Berdych -147 Honestly
I doubt most people even knew Berdych was still in the draw, hell, that
he was even still top 10. The guy's done nothing notable in quite a
long time. Meanwhile, Ferrer continues to roll along, making his 9th
straight slam QF. He's #3 in the world, comfortably leads the h2h
8-4...and he opens as a dog!?! Oh, I see what you did here books. Clever
girl. The fact that Berdych opened as a decent fave is very telling to
me and a big reason I'm siding with the Czech. Under the radar and with
no expectations usally brings out his best play and well, no one's
expecting him to do anything since it's the Nadal/Djokovic show.
Ferrer's looked very vulnerable all tournament long and I expect him to
bow out against the big Czech's firepower tonight.
1* Bouchard +235 (WTA) Ivanovic
was scintillating against Serena. Her forehand was on fire, she was
aggressive with her play and really seized the moment. It was a huge win
for her after struggling for what seems like an eternity since she won
the French Open in 2008. She wilted under the expectations then, so how
will she handle it now? People have taken notice and once again Ana's
faced with performance pressure. The biggest win of her career in quite a
while, now she's the heavy favourite and gets an up and comer in
Bouchard who dismantled Ivanovic in their only encounter last year at
Wimbledon. Let's take a look at what's happened to players when they eliminate Serena outside of a final: 2013 Australian QF to Stephens, Stephens lost the next round. 2013 Wimbledon r16 to Lisicki, Lisicki made the finals and lost. 2012 Cincinnati QF to Kerber, Kerber made the finals and lost. 2012 French 1st to Razzano, Razzano lost the next round. 2012 Miami QF to Wozniacki, Wozniacki lost the next round. 2012 Australian r16 to Makarova, Makarova lost the next round. 2011 Wimbledon r16 to Bartoli, Bartoli lost the next round. 2011 Easbourne r16 to Zvonareva, Zvonareva lost the next round. 2010 French QF to Stosur, Stosur made the finals and lost. 2010 Madrid r16 to Petrova, Petrova lost the next round. 2010 Rome SF to Jankovic, Jankovic lost the next round.
A decent sample size, with 8 of the 11 women losing the very next round. The majority of them against winnable opposition. No pressure at all Ana.
