M. Sharapova -112 over B. Mattek-Sands................1*
I know Maria hasn't been at her best lately, but she is still one of the best Indoor hardcourt players in the world at 46-14. 4 meetings in this matchup with Pova winning all 4 with ease, including on Indoor hard 1 and 1 around this time last year. I know Sands is having a decent start to the year, but she's not the best Indoor hard player at 26-26. Pova is struggling to start the year, but she's not struggling that much to make this close to a pick 'em match IMO. Y. Wickmayer -176 M. Youznhy -225.....................................................1*
Wickmayer is a very good fast court and Indoor hard player with a big game, whileZakopalova is a counterpuncher that excels on slower surfaces. Wickmayer is having a nice start to the season and I expect her to overpower and take care of business today.
I know Thiemo is playing in his home country, but dude hasn't been very good on Indoor hard in his early career. He's just 13-20 Indoors with no good wins at all. Matter of fact his best win was in the 1st round against Petzschner.
Youznhy got to the final here last year beating Monfils and Djokovic along the way. Youz is a very solid Indoor hard player and has much more experience on it. I know Youz isn't off to the best start this year and don't really expect him to blow Thiemo off the court, but I just can't see Youz losing in the end unless he doesn't care and that shouldn't be the case with points to defend.

BBC commentators mentioned Sharapova having a bad infection. She managed only 10 minutes of court time yesterday before heading back to her hotel, might withdraw.

I didn't hear that, thanks for the heads up. It sounds like she won't play then.
