Wow n3gative you are one of the best to me but I think that list is kind of crazy. no way is Stosur the #2 fave or even top five IMO, simply because her nerves will not allow her to play her best when it gets late in this tournament. Look at her abysmal finals record if you need proof. Girl is a born choker. I do not think much of Kuz now but rating Cibulkova as having a higher chance, got to disagree! Pretty sure Woz is gonna take out your #5 fave as well. The rest looks about right to me, though I would rate Rezai 8-10. Too inconsistent.
My version:
1. Henin by far
2. Serena, good enough to overcome lack of clay prowess, should have won this thing last year, cannot judge her by lead up form.
(huge dropoff, from here to me it is all bunched up and even)
3. Jankovic. Has good game/form and is a stylistic mismatch vs Venus so I will rate her this high...
4. Venus! She is not horrible on clay. I am betting against her next round but that is just for value... she has made the finals here before. I think she is pumped up about her #2 status and as long as she avoids JJ/Serena/Henin she should be the fave the whole way through.
5.
Sharapova. Her form was just awesome in round one. The serve is working. She seemed to get acclimated to the clay last year. She showed great clay court game in round one, using drop shots and lobs and such very well and frequently. She has changed her game for the clay and looks fantastic. I think she shocks the world and actually might rate her as the third fave right now but for a historical lack of success on clay. Still, I think she has changed her game just this year for the surface and could surprise in a big way.
6. Wozniacki, how could this D Artist not have a chance on clay, it should by all rights be her best surface.
7. Rezai. Ultimate wildcard. When on she can hit anyone off the court. Best ballbasher in the WTA right now. A matchup issue for Henin, has taken a set off Serena in the last year, beat Jankovic... this girl is inconsistent but right now her stock is high value because her game is redlined. Who knows if/when this changes though.
8. Kuznetsova. Just too inconsistent to be a true threat. But if she wa sin good form I would rate her top 3, maybe even #2 behind Henin. She has tons of game. She like look better coming back vs Petkovic than she did the first hour or so, in fact she looked pretty good.
9. Dementieva--Horrid form and IMO sure to be upset soon but too talented not to make the top ten list.
10. Petrova--powerful serve, good clay results in the past, solid form first round. Not going to happen though...
I would rate Stosur and Cibulkova after this. Cibulkova doesn't have enough offense and is in bad form. Stosur is too inconsistent, her serve is readable by certain players even though it dominates others, her serve can go off, she has extreme nervousness in the clutch and in general is fairly inconsistent form the baseline with no backhand. If she gets far enough I will invest against her but I feel like she will be upset somehow. Not the next round, obviously.
I was bored so thanks for giving me something to do.
