What a sad group of misfits these Brooklyn Nets are compared to the NJ Nets...
And is not the worst chant in professional sports "Brooooooklyn Brooooooklyn"?
The nets line is big which is what drove you away? No shame in not dealing with a line that big.
As far as the Lakers go, I can promise you they will start losing games and it might be by embarrassing margins.
Why? Well they need to finish 5th or worse in the draft or their pick goes to Philly.
Philly came out and publicly stated they had no problem trading up and coming (but limited defensively) PG Michael Carter Williams for the chance at the number 6/7/8 pick (the only places it could realistically land if A) the Lakers keep winning or B) they finish 3rd/4th/5th record wise and get bumped out of the top 3.
They were wildly criticized for this but it did something harmful to the Lakers: it put that pick on the map for all to see.
Now A) imo is pretty much out.
Byron Scott had a terrible tenure in Cleveland and I thought for sure he would never be a head coach again. He also did very little coaching in NJ (Lawrence Frank did most of it during the Nets Championship runs).
When I heard he was named the head coach, I inmediatley knew he was there for one mission: to tank to get a pick from 1 to 5.
If the Lakers lose this pick their season will be an unmitigated disaster:
And now Philly is chomping at the bit to get that pick at 6.
How do they get it? Watch the Lakers win, which they have the past two games.
Byron, a bad coach will soon receive his 'wink and a nod' to tank and leave no doubt in the box score that his players could win.
Why? Because players don't necessrily tank. Coaches and GM's manipulate lineups and rosters to ensure a tank and tge Lakers GM has assembled an atrocious group in 2014/15...and that pick is the reason why:
Kobe shuts it down too. You don't think a man that proud, perhaps the single proudest player in the NBA wants a few more games to play? Of course he does. And with him on the court, the Lakers can be in any game against anyone outside of the top teams in the West and the Cavs.
So he was sat for the year.
Lakers do NOTHING at the trade deadline.
Nash is shut down for the year.
Byron is hired.
The Lakers starting 5 these past two years are by far the worst ever in their history.
And despite all this, Byron just came out and said he will tinker with the lineup in upcoming games to see "what some other guys can give:" And this is after two wins!
What does that mean? Take lumps and LOSE with younger players to see what they have. LOSE is the only word upper management cares about.
Now remember, the Lakers have history. Byron is a proud man as well so they will lose but they won't lose too many in a row.
So they WILL win here and there. It's just a crapshoot when that will be.
Byron HATES the Celtics and the Lakers were on a 7 game losing streak so I wasn't surprised they won that game.
The Jazz were ripe for the taking after embarrassing the defending champs the night before.
But three in a row? With this lottery pick on the line? It's a tall order. That is why I said I was surprised by this pick.
I hope the six gets you there as this team has shown a willingness to stay in games of late.
But this is a team that was down by 25....to the Knicks...a roster even worse than the Lakers so sometimes, when they pack it in they REALLY pack it in.
I'd look to take them (with more points) on a losing streak than after they just won 2 in a row given all the points above.
Very dangerous team to back given the off the court things going on.
Good luck. This is a tough one but you are getting points so I hope you get there. Bucks have had it a bit rough integrating MCW into their lineup after losing Knight so let's hope that continues for them.
