There's no method or computer behind this. I looked on the internet for something like Sagarin does for most sports, and there's nothing for the W. So, to kill time and maybe stimulate some discussion I'll post them from time to time.
I certainly would not claim to be great at it, and you'll almost certainly disagree on some or maybe all of my ratings. As a bettor I'm always looking for info and besides useless "power rankings", there's not much out there, so we'll see how it goes.
The very nice thing about women's sports is there is A LOT of volatility....I don't bet tennis, but I would guess there is probably double the amount of upsets at the major women's tennis championships as there are with men's tennis. If me and most of the bettors here would play moneyline dogs more often, I'm pretty sure it'd pay off, as upsets rule in women's sports.
Ok, here we go.
Highest ranking is 100 and subtracting one the total of one team from their opponent's would be the line I'd make for a neutral court game, which is life as we know it in the WNBA 2020.
1) Mystics 100
2) Sparks 98....they added some nice players in the off-season...did I hear this is Parker's last season?
3) Aces 97....losing Plum is no big loss, and they got Angel playing for someone she respects, however Liz not playing is huge, even though when she played for the Wings she was the greatest women's basketball player EVER, and with the Aces last year she was merely good.
4) Storm 97......losing their head coach hurts....I think he, Adler, Reeve and Thibault are all equally excellent.
5) Sky 96....losing Dolson is tough because they have of nice finesse and pretty players, however every team needs a glue lady that rebounds and plays tough D. I used to love playing with grinders like her.
6) Lynx 96...Sylvia is still a top 5 player in my opinion, what a horse!
7) Wings 93...they should improve a lot as the season progresses.
8) Dream 92.....they got rid of a lot of players, and so they should've...maybe things will be more normal for them.
9) Fever 91.....they look much better conditioned this year and their effort is better. If their guards are off though, they have zero chance of winning the game.
10) Mercury 91....I would say that most would rate them higher...I've never liked their stars and I don't like the personnel decisions that they've made. Letting Leilani go and getting Skylar was a terrible trade off.
11) Sun 90...they have gone completely off the cliff. Neither of the Thomas women can throw the ball in the ocean this season. Someone told me that Jones was the MVP last year I didn't agree with them, but they are a terrible basketball team right now without her.
12) Liberty 94 with Ionescu and 88 without....Ionescu is the next superstar of women's basketball and if she stays healthy she will break a lot of records. I haven't seen her enough to know if she can elevate her team and her teammates' games yet, but I'd pay money and travel a good distance to watch her play. She just crackles with raw ability and competitive drive.
