So now the 5 games series starts and I still believe a single elimination for Round 2 is just awful because as we witnessed, both the 3rd and 4th seeds are now out after poor performances. If it was at least a 3 game series, then both the Sun and Liberty could have made some adjustments for Game #2 and possibly leveled the series at 1-1 but not to be..
So we have
Mystics @ Lynx
Mercury @ Sparks
The 5 game format goes like this, with the Lynx and Sparks holding down home court advantage. The series goes 2-2-1 so the first 2 games of the series are crucial for the home team. The Mystics have been owned of late against the Lynx and so have the Mercury by the Sparks. For me, these to teams are so far above the league its almost comical. If you bet just the Lynx and Sparks all season long you would have hit 40-26-2 which is 60.7% which is pretty amazing.
Standings will come soon. BOL everyone

I see tonight's games as an all out fight. A ton of fouls which leads to a lot of free throws and stopped clock. Both PHX & WAS seems like they both had to come from behind in their last games. I just don't see MINN & LA coming out flat. Plus the fact lower seeded teams pulled off an upset on the road. These are statement games for the home team. I really want to pull the trigger on the home teams by DD and under.

Do you think tonight will be blowout games for the home teams?
Or does the time off hurt?
Its hard to call bud. Both Mercury and Mystics did play really well in their last game but its hard to back that up again on the road against the Sparks and Lynx. Both these teams have a great points differential at home but surprisingly the Mercury actually have a decent road record. I didn't know but Taurasi is 11-0 S/U in elimination games throughout her WNBA career which is just incredible. These games are obviously not elimination games but very hard not to take both teams to win and cover the big lines.
It will come down to 3 point shooting, i don't expect Toliver to go crazy like she did the other night vs NY. Whalen back for Lynx is a massive boost for this side as she gets their offense rolling and I don't think there will be any issues with her fitness. She has been with this side for years now and will slide back into her normal game.
Thats the scary thing as well about the Lynx, this team has been playing with each other for a long time now. Majority of the players know each other back to front and thats the same with the Sparks with a few added players.
The Mercury and Mystics however are teams built differently this season. Mercury have BG/DT combination but the other players are completely different to previous seasons and I feel as though Little is a liability on this roster. Their bench is also scrappy at times. The Mystics are purely built around EDD and Toliver and yes they have playoff experience but its hard not to take both home teams ATS today.

I won't have time before tip off to do the standings but if you look at the last thread "10th September" you should get a good understanding of where people are currently at.

Min recovers Whalen, she and the team should be a bit rusty, Was playing lower pace, lately, I don't think they will have same % and team is tired.
LAS is an amazing team, Mercury tired, LAS rusty, I think mercury are easy to defend for a team like LAS with huge bigs who will also socre easily and put Griner into foul troubles. for me sparks all the way.

Just cant go against these 2 powerhouse teams with the Sparks and the Lynx. They want these series over and done quickly no doubt before they meet each other in the WNBA Finals yet again. Very hard to win back to back road games in the playoffs but also cover. Road dogs that are playing their 2nd road game in the playoffs since 2011 are 4-19 ATS with a losing margin of -12.5 points. This Sparks team are primed and ready for the Mercury I believe.

Less than impressive by the Sparks but they got the win. Some terrible officiating though. The Lynx looked good and absolutely pulled apart the Mystics and Toliver had an average night.
1 day rest in between next games now. Hard to see how the Mercury and Mystics turn it around after those losses.

Anyone see anything that stood out to them in the games?
It was clear for me that Lynx are on a mission this season with the way they handle the Mystics. I still think the Mystics can win a game in this series by no more than 1, I think it ends 3-1. They are undersized, Thomas is not match for Fowles. EDD can have her moments but Toliver is so hot and cold. Their bench is weak and they are missing Tayler Hill massively. She is a key ingredient to this team but her being out is just a massive loss. The Lynx are geared perfectly. This team has the bench, the scorers and the center needed to win the league.
The other match-up I do believe can go the distance especially when Mercury return home. They have BG and DT and although DT was poor this game, I think they can push this series to game 5. I haven't ruled them out just yet especially at home. The Sparks look so hit and miss and their shooting was pretty poor tonight. Agler has kept his rotations down so low this season, using 8 players most games which may cost him if one of his players gets injured. Nneka isn't shooting as well as last season and I still don't believe Sims can perform well in those clutch moments needed in big games. Should be fun when this series moves to Phoenix.

I couldn't watch the matches yesterday night, but quite impressed with Lynx win, Montgomery seems to be there to defend her starting spot. Already Cruz moved Whalen some years ago in the PO's so it shouldn't be too surprising.
