Masters Predictions: Is Jason Day a Worthy Longshot?

With Jason Day's ball-striking in a good place and putts starting to fall, he could be a sneaky longshot target at this year's Masters.

The 89th edition of the Masters Tournament gets underway at Augusta National Golf Course in Georgia this week.

While many are looking at the betting favorites, my Masters predictions target a longshot with legitimate upside to contend.

Wide range of odds for Jason Day

Jason Day’s odds vary widely depending on the sportsbook. He’s listed as short as 60/1 at bet365 and as long as 100/1 at DraftKings, offering substantial value at the latter, where the line clears the rest of the market by more than $30.

Given that value, I’m recommending a small wager (0.2 units) on the Aussie in the outright market, paired with a bet on him to finish in the Top 30 at +105, both through DraftKings.

Why Day's a worthy longshot

While Jason Day hasn’t won a tournament since 2023, he's remained consistent. He’s made the cut in each of his past 13 PGA Tour starts, posting four Top-15 finishes during that stretch. That success could continue at Augusta National, where Day has historically played well. He owns multiple Top-5 finishes, including a runner-up result in 2011.

The fit is clear. Augusta is a second-shot course, one of the strongest aspects of the Aussie's game. He ranks well above the Tour average in strokes gained on approach this season. His putting is also trending upward. He's gained strokes on the greens in his past two events, finishing T27 and T8 in those tournaments. He’s also putted well historically at Augusta, gaining strokes on the greens the past two years.

With sharp iron play and a hot putter, there’s enough upside to justify grabbing the 100/1 number currently available at DraftKings.

Pick: Jason Day to win outright (+10000 at FanDuel, 0.2 units)
Pick:
Jason Day Top 30 (+105 at DraftKings)
