Add another state to the list for legal sports betting behemoth bet365.
The Arizona Department of Gaming (ADG) announced Tuesday that it awarded an event wagering operator license to bet365, which is the designee for the Ak-Chin Indian Community in the southwestern state.
Offering Arizona sports betting would make the state the sixth legal wagering market for bet365 in the U.S., although it could be the seventh if the operator launches there after the expected launch in Kentucky on September 28.
Room for one more?
The ADG announced it would open a window for legal sports betting applications at the end of June, with one license set aside for Arizona’s Native American tribes and another two reserved for professional sports franchises in the state. The window opened on August 1 and closed on August 15.
There are more than a dozen sports betting sites taking bets in Arizona, which has a statutory limit of 20 total event wagering operator licenses that can be issued. Ten permits are reserved for the tribes and 10 for the state’s sports organizations. Arizona has another dozen or so physical locations where wagers can be placed, such as the FanDuel sportsbook inside Footprint Center, where the Phoenix Suns and Mercury play.
Meanwhile, bet365 has steadily been growing its regulated presence in the United States. The online gambling giant is privately held and has taken its time establishing itself in the U.S. but has launched or is in a position to launch soon in Arizona, Colorado, Iowa, Kentucky, New Jersey, Ohio, and Virginia.
