Betfred isn’t stopping with Maryland.
Following June’s announcement that the online sports betting operator was exiting the Old Line State, Betfred will stop taking Ohio bettors’ action next month.
The last day Ohioans can deposit with Betfred is July 31, according to its website, the same day operations cease in Maryland.
The last day to place any wagers is Aug. 14, and the online sportsbook is asking customers to initiate final withdrawals by noon on Aug. 31, the first full Saturday of college football.
Customers with remaining balances past that date will be mailed a check within 30 days.
Betfred still operates an online sportsbook in Arizona, Colorado, Iowa, Louisiana, Pennsylvania, and Virginia while retail sports betting continues in Nevada and Washington.
Failure to challenge
Betfred was part of the state’s online sports betting launch on Jan. 1, 2023, but it failed to challenge more lucrative operators in Ohio like FanDuel, DraftKings, BetMGM, and Caesars, among others.
Among 19 sportsbooks still operating in the Buckeye State, Betfred ranks 14th in the year-to-date handle of $3.4 million and accounted for just 0.08% of the market in May, the last revenue-reported month.
Betfred produced less than $2,300 in May revenue and just a little over $105,000 in 2024.
Despite a partnership with the NFL’s Cincinnati Bengals, the online sportsbook generated about $500,000 more this year than SuperBook, which also recently announced an exit from Ohio and the other non-Nevada markets.
Betfred, which never launched a retail sportsbook, is a U.K.-based independent sports betting company that operates 1,350 shops and serves 800,000 active customers online.
