Washington D.C. sports bettors can anticipate the launch of a fourth online sportsbook operator, as DraftKings Sportsbook has officially announced its intention to go live in the nation’s capital.
While DraftKings is still waiting on licensure and regulatory approval to launch its online mobile app, its market access agreement with MLS team D.C. United has allowed the Boston-based operator to get one step closer to joining FanDuel, Caesars Sportsbook, and BetMGM in The District of Columbia.
The move follows May's Sports Wagering Amendment Act of 2024 announcement, which overhauled the state’s monopolized sports betting system under GambetDC in favor of an open-market approach. In response, FanDuel took over GambetDC as a subcontractor with a huge increase in betting handle recorded during its first month of operation in Washington.
Caesars and BetMGM both went live with their mobile sportsbook apps on July 17.
Looking forward
DraftKings is set to join its 29th betting market in North America once it officially launches in D.C. In anticipation of the launch, the sportsbook is offering new customers $200 in bonus bets that can be used once the service goes live.
“It has been incredible to see legalized sports betting grow rapidly over the past six years, and with plans to launch our online sportsbook in D.C., DraftKings looks forward to expanding its presence in more than half the country,” said DraftKings North America president, Matt Kalish.
“We would like to thank the D.C. Council for creating a path to bring DraftKings’ top-rated sportsbook to the nation’s capital. Together with D.C. United, we look forward to delivering fans a best-in-class experience through our customer-friendly product.”
