May’s sports betting wagering total in Iowa came in at $182.4 million, down from $209.5 million in April and a record-setting $272.4 million handle recorded in March.
Despite the continued decrease in Iowa’s total betting handle, Iowa sports betting operators cashed a total of $16.69 million in net receipts, rising to a 10.9 win percentage (hold), the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission reports. While the operator revenue stayed virtually the same as April, the hold rate rose 3% due to a smaller sports wagering payout. May’s total sports wagering payout was recorded at $165.7 million, down from $192.9 million in April, making it a more profitable month for sportsbook operators in the Hawkeye State.
Iowa totaled $1.12 million in state tax revenue in May, roughly a thousand dollars more than in April.
May’s numbers bring Iowa sports betting to the following year-to-date results across retail and online wagering:
- $2.46 billion in handle
- $199.76 million in total revenue
- $13.49 million in state tax
