Legal sports betting is finally coming to Milwaukee, and now the city knows who will be powering the first sportsbook.

Kambi Group plc recently announced a multi-year, multi-channel partnership with Potawatomi Casino and Hotels, which is located in the largest city in Wisconsin.

Kambi will provide the technology for retail initially and eventually online sports betting sites at the Potwatomi location. Kambi will also power 20 sports betting kiosks at Carter Hotel and Casino in northern Wisconsin.

“Potawatomi Casinos & Hotels is pleased to partner with Kambi, a global leader in sports betting technology,” Potawatomi CEO and General Manager Dominic Ortiz said. “Kambi’s proven track record will be beneficial as we introduce this new gaming amenity to our millions of annual visitors from throughout the region.”

Good news for Kambi

Wisconsin marks the 22nd state to use Kambi, which will provide live odds boards and Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) technology to Potawatomi sports bettors.

“We are proud to partner with Potawatomi Casinos & Hotels, a deal which further strengthens Kambi’s strong relationship with tribal casino operators and expands our footprint across the United States,” Kambi CEO and Co-Founder Kristian Nylén said. “Potawatomi Casinos & Hotels has some of the premier entertainment destinations in the Midwest, and we look forward to bringing them and their customers our award-winning sports betting technology.”

This partnership comes at a good time for Kambi, which lost deals with operators DraftKings and Penn Entertainment in 2022.

Kambi, a Malta-headquartered company, has helped bring legal sports betting to Ontario and has other partnerships with operators BetRivers and Unibet

Kambi also helps power sports betting in casinos in Arizona and Louisiana.

Milwaukee expansion

Potawatomi’s new deal comes on the heels of an announcement back in January that the casino was renovating a theatre and sports bar to create the first sportsbook in Milwaukee.

Since legalization in November of 2021, sports betting in Wisconsin has only allowed Native American-tribal licenses to operate sports betting at tribal-owned casinos and tribal-owned properties.

Expanding into Milwaukee is a big breakthrough for the Potawatomi tribe and the large population surrounding a city that boasts the NBA’s Bucks and MLB’s Brewers.

Oneida Casino in Green Bay is the only current retail option to place wagers, and mobile sports betting through the Oneida Nation’s app is legal at seven tribal-owned truckstops and two other Oneida-owned casinos.
