A renowned sportsbook service provider has found new leadership.
Kambi Group announced on Monday that Werner Becher is taking over the CEO role from Kristian Nylén, who’s stepping down after 14 years with the company.
Becher, who formerly served as the chief of sports betting data and supplier Sportradar, will officially assume the position on July 25, the day after Kambi announces its second-quarter report.
“I am honored to take on the position of CEO at Kambi Group, a company that has been at the forefront of this industry for many years and one which I have the utmost respect and admiration for,” Becher said in a statement. “I join Kambi at an exciting time in its evolution, as it continues to open up its service and widen its addressable market. I am excited to work closely with the Board, our executive team, and our talented employees across the world to deliver on the fantastic opportunities ahead of us.”
End of an era
Becher’s hire ends a CEO search that began in January with Nylén’s decision to step down.
Nylén will serve as a member of Kambi’s board of directors and “will provide ongoing support to Becher to ensure a seamless handover,” according to the company.
“We are delighted to welcome Werner Becher as the new CEO of Kambi,” Anders Ström, chair of the board and co-founder of Kambi, said. “Werner is an exceptionally suitable successor to Kristian Nylén. With extensive industry experience, strong entrepreneurial spirit, proven business acumen, and exceptional drive, we are confident Werner is the right choice to lead Kambi into a new era.”
Consistent success
Becher has held senior positions in the sports betting industry and has experience in the technology sector. He managed U.S. operations at Sportradar before becoming CEO of Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America business.
Becher spent eight years at European sports betting and gaming operator Interwetten.
Most recently, Becher has worked as an independent advisor.
Kambi said in the statement that the new CEO will oversee growth in the platform’s AI-pricing division Tzeract, which provides a Bet Builder to European sportsbook kwiff.
Kambi finished the first quarter of 2024 with a slight year-over-year loss, but has shown consistent success as a global platform provider Bally’s, Kindred Group, and Rush Street Interactive, among others.
