Despite the ugly television numbers, baseball betting hit a spike in the World Series.
Simplebet saw 2.4 million micro-bets during the 2023 MLB postseason, marking an 88% increase from last year.
The legal sports betting technology provider is a market leader in micro-betting products. Its clients include DraftKings, bet365, Caesars, and the recently added Hard Rock Sportsbook. During the 2023 MLB regular season, Simplebet saw a 2.5x increase in the total number of micro-bets taken and a 2.3x increase in unique users when compared to last year.
Postseason surprise
Television advertisers were disappointed in this year’s MLB World Series. Without the draw of a big market team, viewership was expected to be lackluster... but it was even worse than that.
The World Series between the Texas Rangers and the Arizona Diamondbacks had the lowest television ratings since the ratings agency Nielson started tracking them in 1963. This year’s MLB postseason, however, was a boon for sports betting in general — and micro-betting in particular.

Micro-bettors engage at higher rates as games progress. In both the regular season and postseason, roughly half of the micro-bets were placed after the 7th inning. During the World Series, the most heavily bet game was Game 1, which went into extra innings.
The second most heavily bet game was Game 4, which looked like a blowout after seven innings — but enjoyed a lot of action in the late innings.
More ways to wager
Simplebet is expanding its portfolio of micro-bets, as it recently announced new micro-betting options for the NBA.
Taking a page from its popular NFL “Same Drive Parlays,” Simplebet will be offering NBA options to include “First Field Goal Scorer Exact,” “Team First Field Goal Scorer Exact,” “First 3-Point Scorer,” and “Team First 3-Point Scorer.”
