Fewer NFL playoff games didn’t lead to a lack of business in the Empire State.
The New York Gaming Commission announced a handle of $490.7 million, a 10.1% increase, for the week ending January 21.
It’s the highest handle since Thanksgiving week and marks the 15th consecutive week with wagers of over $400 million.
The previous period’s Wildcard Weekend led to all-time high revenue among the nine online sportsbooks, but the NFL Divisional Round, with two fewer games than the week before, favored the bettors more as profits fell 29.4% to $47.5 million.
With favorites going 2-2 against the spread and the popular Kansas City Chiefs winning outright as an underdog, operators' hold fell from 15.1% to 9.7% in the week ending Jan. 21. Revenue also surpassed $40 million for the fifth time in the last seven weeks.
FanDuel crushes competition
One of the most popular sportsbooks in the U.S. market did serious work in the week ending Jan. 21.
FanDuel generated a handle of $216.1 million, the best in New York for the week and the fifth $200 million handle since October. A week after setting the record for most revenue ($33.4 million) by a single operator in the Empire State, FanDuel dropped to $25.8 million.
DraftKings hauled in $166.9 million in wagers for the week and revenue of $15.8 million.
Handle up, revenue down
Eight of the nine online operators saw a week-to-week increase in handle. Caesars jumped 11% to $51.1 million, good enough for third-highest in New York.
BetMGM recorded a handle of $29.8 million to finish fourth while Rush Street’s BetRivers was the only other sportsbook with wagers of $10 million or more.
No operator took a revenue loss for the week, but none increased profits week-over-week either.
