Public bettors found success against the sportsbooks during Week 12 of the NFL season.

The NFL slate on Sunday, Nov. 26 proved to be one of the most profitable days for public bettors in the Super Bowl era, according to ESPN Stats & Information. The Week 12 schedule, which included 15 games between Thanksgiving Day and Sunday, saw favorites cover the spread in 12 of those contests — tying the record from Week 12 of 2017 for the most in a single week.

“The public feasted on favorites Thanksgiving weekend and it resulted in the biggest week for sports bettors this NFL season at BetMGM,” trading manager Christian Cipollini said in a statement.

The Week 12 slate included high-profile matchups of some of the NFL’s best teams, including the Philadelphia Eagles who were the most bet team at BetMGM in terms of both money and bet percentage. The Eagles, who entered the contest as a 3-point favorite over the Buffalo Bills, would secure a 37-34 overtime victory leaving bettors to push their wagers.

Despite the push, public bettors found success with the Pittsburgh Steelers covering their 2.5-point spread against the Cincinnati Bengals following a 16-10 win. The Steelers were ranked third on BetMGM in bet percentage and money. The Baltimore Ravens also helped bettors put money in their pockets by covering a 3.5-point spread on Sunday night against the Los Angeles Chargers at SoFi Stadium. The win would propel betting favorites to a 9-2 record against the spread on Sunday.

Chance at history

The Week 12 NFL schedule, which had no team on a bye week, has a chance at making history on ESPN’s “Monday Night Football.” The game will feature a matchup between the Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikings. The Vikings, who have been marred by injuries at key offensive positions, enter the game as 3-point favorites against the Bears. If the Vikings can cover, it would break 2017’s record with favorites covering the spread in 13 games in one NFL Week.
