Angels vs A's betting preview
Starting pitchers
Shohei Ohtani (1-0, 2.37 ERA): Ohtani was supposed to start on Thursday, but he ended up being a late scratch. Still, Ohtani is finally looking healthy out there and he has quickly shown the world what he is capable of as both a hitter and a pitcher. He’s yet to work into the eighth inning of a game, so he hasn’t shown that he can go very deep into his outings, but he doesn’t need to if he’s blanking opponents and putting the bullpen in a great position.
Sean Manaea (3-2, 4.17 ERA): Manaea’s inconsistency can be infuriating. The lefty was rock solid against this very Angels team on Sunday, but he had given up 10 earned runs on 20 hits in his previous two starts. Oakland will be hoping for more of what he brought in his last outing against this lineup, but you just never know what you’re going to get with him.

Moneyline pick
Manaea pitched well against the Angels on Sunday, but they should be a bit more prepared this time around. This team also happens to have quite a few guys that are more comfortable batting against left-handed starters, and that makes this lineup a bit more dangerous.
Without Mike Trout, it will take a group effort for Los Angeles to win games. With that said, keep an eye on guys like Anthony Rendon and David Fletcher. Rendon has struggled to stay health with the Angels, but it’s only a matter of time before he gets going this season. He has homered off Manaea once in his career and it wouldn’t be shocking if he does it again. Meanwhile, David Fletcher is 2 for 7 with a double and two RBI against the lefty. Los Angeles also has Ohtani to try and help his own cause, and Jared Walsh has a ton of pop. Both prefer to hit against righties, but they can easily make Manaea pay for a mistake.
Ohtani being on the mound also means that the Angels will have their best starter out there. It’s never a guarantee that a lousy team will beat a good one, but Los Angeles has a great chance tonight.
PREDICTION: Angels ML +120
Over/Under pick
Ohtani has allowed just three earned runs in his last 16.2 innings on the mound, and he is starting to finally put it all together as a starter. His bat-missing ability should really throw Oakland off in this game. Meanwhile, Manaea might not repeat Sunday’s performance against the Angels in this one, but he doesn’t have to in order to help this total. If he’s a bit worse and Ohtani has it going, this thing should end up settling at around six or seven. Will it be a sweat? Probably. But we're confident in the Under being the right call.
PREDICTION: Under 7.5 (-108)
