Angels vs Dodgers betting preview
Starting pitchers
Jaime Barria (2-0, 4.12 ERA): Barria has been excellent for the Angels in his last two starts, as he has given up only two earned runs over his last 13.2 innings of work. It goes without saying that the Dodgers present a completely different challenge, as this is one of the best teams in all of baseball. However, the righty is capable of turning in a quality start and the Angels will be hoping for exactly that.
Julio Urias (13-3, 3.40 ERA): Urias has been on a tear as of late, as the lefty has given up one or fewer earned runs in five of his last six starts. The odd thing is that Urias hasn’t been striking out many batters over the course of this stretch, but it wouldn’t be surprising if he flipped a switch and started to do that soon. He has some incredible stuff and it’s not easy to make contact off him.

Moneyline pick
The Angels have won each of their last four games, so they’re playing well heading into this meeting with the Dodgers. Now, the Angels get to face a lefty in Dodger Stadium, making them an unbelievable value as massive underdogs in this game. It goes without saying that the Dodgers are one of the best teams in baseball, so beating them twice in a row certainly isn’t easy and this isn’t the type of game to spend foolish money on. However, the Angels are absolutely worth a small sprinkle on the moneyline.
On the season, only the Seattle Mariners have as many home runs against left-handed pitching as the Angels, with both teams coming into this one with 52. The Angels are also fourth in the league in slugging percentage against southpaws, and only five teams in baseball have a lower strikeout percentage against lefties.
Also, while the Dodgers do have a slight edge on the mound in this game on paper, Barria isn’t somebody that the Angels lack confidence in coming into this game. The righty might not have the potential to dominate, but he is fully capable of coming away with a quality start.
PREDICTION: Angels ML (+260)
Over/Under pick
The Angels have been very productive against lefties this season, but most of their damage has come on home runs. They haven’t exactly put a lot of runners on base and caused a ton of furious rallies. It has been more solo shots and two-run dingers, so it’s possible that they’ll flash their pop and still not score five or six runs in this one.
That gives the Under a real chance of coming through, especially considering Barria has been limiting mistakes recently. The righty has given up only two homers in 19.2 innings this season, and those both came in the same game against the Twins. We wouldn’t count on that happening again tonight.
PREDICTION: Under 8.5 (-110)
