The Milwaukee Brewers head to the Bay Area for a four-game series against the San Francisco Giants beginning tonight.
Quinn Prister takes the mound for Milwaukee, and his platoon splits have me targeting an opposing player prop with my Brewers vs. Giants predictions and MLB picks for Monday, April 21.
Brewers vs Giants prediction
My Brewers vs Giants best bet: Mike Yastrzemski Over 1.5 total bases (+126 at Caesars)
Quinn Priester has a pristine 0.90 ERA through two starts, but his underlying 5.39 xERA doesn’t support a sustained run of success with the Milwaukee Brewers.
The 24-year-old has notably struggled against left-handed bats in his 109 2/3 frames at the Big League level, surrendering a .317/.404/.558 slash line with a grotesque 7.36 FIP.
One San Francisco Giants player who stands to benefit is outfielder Mike Yastrzemski. The 34-year-old has always hit righties well, sporting a 121 wRC+ and .347 wOBA over a large sample size.
Diving into Priester’s pitch mix, he primarily relies on the cutter (31.8%) and sinker (30.6%) against lefties while sprinkling in a tertiary changeup (17.6%).
That’s music to the ears of Yastrzemski. The former Vanderbilt product hits the cutter better than any other pitch (149 wRC+) and destroys sinkers (135 wRC+) and changes (135 wRC+) as well.
Priester doesn’t make many batters miss (15th percentile whiff rate, 18th percentile chase rate) and allows hard contact (25th percentile average exit velocity, 10th percentile barrel rate).
He typically has a short leash, recording 15 outs in each of his two starts this season. The bullpen behind him has a 5.14 ERA and 1.36 WHIP, so it’s hard to have much confidence in the arm barn.
The weather favors hitting with 8.1 mph winds blowing out to center field at the time of first pitch.
Over at Caesars, the outfielder is listed with +126 odds of recording more than 1.5 total bases. Considering his favorable platoon and pitch-type splits, I’m buying at that price.

Caesars QuickPick: Our Brewers vs Giants same-game parlay (SGP)
San Francisco is glad to be back at Oracle Park following a 10-game road trip. It’ll be the first home game since April 9.
Robbie Ray takes the mound and stands to take advantage against a Milwaukee lineup that hasn’t hit left-handed pitching well.
The Brewers rank 22nd in wRC+ (79) against southpaws and therefore have a platoon disadvantage — the Giants have a 106 wRC+ against right-handers and have a 12-2 record against them.
Ray has 15 strikeouts across his last two outings and is coming off a strong 33.3% K rate in seven starts a year ago.
