The New York Yankees have won 10 of their last 11 games and will now be looking to close out a three-game sweep of the Chicago Cubs on Sunday. The Yanks are sending Jameson Taillon to the mound to get the job done, and the righty has been stellar in 2022.

Cubs vs Yankees odds
This odds widget represents the best odds available for each betting market from regulated sportsbooks.
The best price you’ll find on the Yankees to win this game outright is -225, so this is a game in which you’ll want to look to the run line. New York is as low as -114 to cover the 1.5, which is a much better line for Yankees bettors. The total, which opened at 8.5, is yet to move off of that number. There’s no significant juice on the Over or Under either.

Cubs vs Yankees betting preview
Starting pitchers
Keegan Thompson RHP (6-1, 3.17 ERA): Thompson was shelled in his last trip to the hill, as he gave up seven earned runs in only three innings in a 9-3 loss to the Baltimore Orioles. The righty has, however, been extremely reliable, and it’ll be interesting to see how he responds in a match-up with one of the best offenses in baseball. For what it’s worth, Thompson wasn’t exactly one of the top prospects in this Chicago organization. So, it’s possible that the rookie’s success is a bit of a fluke.
Jameson Taillon RHP (6-1, 2.73 ERA): The Yankees earned a 10-4 win over the Minnesota Twins in Taillon’s most recent start, but the righty gave up four earned runs on nine hits in just four innings. It was a bit surprising to see him getting blown up after having given up two or fewer earned runs in nine of his previous 10 starts. Taillon does, however, have a 3.25 ERA on the road, but he has a 2.31 ERA in six home starts.

Cubs vs Yankees picks and predictions
Our side and total predictions are based upon our analysis of the line and total in this game. Our best bet is our favorite pick across all markets.
Run line analysis
The Yankees are currently fourth in the league in on-base plus slugging against right-handed pitching, third in isolated power, and tied for first in weighted runs created plus against righties. With that in mind, the matchup doesn’t get much worse for Keegan Thompson, who has allowed 10 earned runs in his last 8 1-3 innings on the mound.
The 27-year-old, who was scorching hot to start the year, has seen his ERA go from 1.58 to 3.17 since the start of June. He just doesn’t have the stuff required to slow down a Yankees offense that is on fire at the moment. The Yanks hit six homers in last night’s 8-0 win over the Cubs, and they’re likely not slowing down anytime soon.
Jameson Taillon also happens to be coming off of a bad outing, so it’s likely he’ll get himself back on track here. The righty has been better in the Bronx all season, and he now faces a Cubbies lineup that has scored only seven runs over the last four games. Chicago also happens to be just 18th in MLB in slugging percentage against righties, so it’s hard to envision how it can keep up with the Yankees if they’re hitting for power.
All in all, this is just a game that New York should easily win, and the team really should cover the run line in this spot.
Prediction: Yankees -1.5 (-114 at FanDuel)
Over/Under analysis
Last night, the Yankees scored eight runs in a game that went Under the total because the Cubs didn’t score a single run. That’s unlikely to happen again in this afternoon meeting, but that’s mostly because Chicago should find a way to produce some runs. The Cubbies have scored only one run in the two games in this series, so the team is bound to be a bit better offensively this time around.
Meanwhile, New York should once again turn in a great offensive performance, as Thompson isn’t anything special. He also happens to be a righty, and the Yankees are great against right-handed pitching.
The Over is also 4-1 in the last five games that the Yanks have played against teams with winning percentages of 40% or less. And it’s 3-1-1 in the team’s last five games as a favorite.
Prediction: Over 8.5 (-105 at WynnBET)
Best bet
It’s not often that you see a team total at 5.5, rather a 3.5 or 4.5, but it makes sense given how well the Yankees have played recently. New York has scored eight or more runs in three of its last five games, and the team is coming off a game in which it hit six homers. Now, it is back in Yankee Stadium with a matchup that could lead to some more fireworks.
The Yankees have hit righties hard all season, and they happen to get one that is struggling coming into this game. With that in mind, there’s just no way to imagine the Cubs slowing the Bronx Bombers down in the final game of this series.
Pick: Yankees team total Over 5.5 (+118 at Unibet)
