Orioles vs Blue Jays Prediction, Picks & Odds for Today’s MLB Game

Jose Berrios gets the ball on Opening Day for the third time with the Blue Jays and he's fared well against these Orioles bats. Even if he stumbles here and there, the Over on his strikeout prop is offering value.

It’s an American League East clash on Opening Day as the Baltimore Orioles visit the Toronto Blue Jays this afternoon for Game 1 of 162 at the Rogers Centre.

Jose Berrios has had quite a bit of success against this Baltimore lineup and I expect that to continue as I’ll discuss in my Orioles vs Blue Jays predictions.

Keep reading for my MLB picks for Thursday, March 27.

Orioles vs Blue Jays prediction

My Orioles vs Blue Jays best bet: Jose Berrios Over 4.5 strikeouts (-128 at FanDuel)

My analysis
Jose Berrios got the Opening Day nod over Kevin Gausman, and he’ll be looking to start on the right foot after a respectable 2024 season, going 16-11 with a 3.60 ERA in 32 starts for the Toronto Blue Jays

This is the third time in his Toronto career he’ll take the hill in the first game of the season, and he’s enjoyed himself against the Orioles. Last year, Berrios posted a 2.77 ERA across two starts vs. the Baltimore Orioles. While he struck out just six hitters in 13 innings of work, hear me out.

The O’s were 14th in the majors in strikeouts with 8.42 per game last season. Against this current Baltimore lineup, Berrios has struck out 43 hitters in 190 at-bats, which averages out to 4.4 Ks. That includes Gunnar Henderson six times, Ramon Laureano seven times, and new recruit Tyler O’Neill three times. Henderson won't be in the Opening Day lineup due to injury, but it helps illustrate how well Berrios has played against this team.

The right-hander had 72 Ks in 93 1/3 innings at home last season and 54 in 67 innings in day games. The juices will be flowing for Berrios, and although the Orioles are a dangerous team, I don’t think he’s going to have any issues hitting at least five strikeouts. Plus, he showed well in spring training, compiling a 2.35 ERA while fanning 13 in 15 1/3 frames.

Berrios will miss some barrels this afternoon.

Orioles vs Blue Jays same-game parlay (SGP)

Jose Berrios Over 4.5 strikeouts

Over 8.5

Tyler O'Neill anytime HR

I know this is a steep number for an SGP. However, there’s evidence behind my picks. Zach Eflin is taking the mound for the Orioles, and the Blue Jays hit him around the ballpark last season. The righty went 1-1 with a 5.79 ERA in four starts, allowing 15 earned runs in 23 1/3 innings of work. Toronto also went deep five times against him.

Although I firmly believe Berrios will have a solid start, this Orioles lineup is too good not to score some runs. Plus, the Over has been hit in six of the last eight meetings between these two AL East rivals.

How could I ignore O’Neill’s anytime HR prop? In case you didn’t know, the Canadian slugger currently holds an MLB record, slugging a home run in five consecutive Opening Days. And since he’s from British Columbia, O’Neill gets to play on home soil in this contest in Toronto. That certainly adds fuel to the fire.

The 29-year-old has a ton of confidence in general when he steps up to the dish, but the belief in himself on Opening Day reaches another level. In 18 career games against the Blue Jays, O’Neill also has six dingers.
