If you build it, they will come, and bet it. Yup, there is a Major League Baseball game being played tonight in a cornfield in Iowa. So, you knew we were going to have an MLB prop bet play on it.

It's the Yankees and the White Sox facing off on the Field of Dreams, but the result might not be heaven for the Yanks. Here’s hoping they pull a Moonlight Graham and wink at Lance Lynn.

We break down and pick these games and more with our best free MLB prop bets and predictions for Thursday, August 12.

Today’s MLB props and picks

White Sox -0.5 Five-Inning Runline (-135)

In one of the coolest things the MLB has ever done, the Field of Dreams Game is being played tonight in a cornfield in Iowa between the New York Yankees and the Chicago White Sox. And it's the pitching matchup that could be heaven for baseball bettors.

The Yankees hand the ball to newly acquired Andrew Heaney while the White Sox counter with Lance Lynn.

Heaney was pitching to a 5.27 ERA and allowing opponents to hit .252 over his 18 starts with the Angels and his transition to New York has not been a smooth one. The lefty has surrendered eight earned runs on 10 hits over his first 10 innings as a Yank.

And that was against the Mariners and Orioles. Now, he faces a White Sox lineup that does a solid job against lefties, ranking 10th in average and ninth in OPS.

Then there's Lynn. The right-hander is pitching to a career-best 2.04 ERA and is limiting opponents to a .200 batting average, going against a Yankees team that ranks 24th in batting average and 20th in OPS against righties. And that was before a litany of players lost to injuries and COVID.

Be as confident betting this as Ray Kinsella was when he didn't sell the farm. They built it. The profit will come.

Brandon Woodruff Under 2.5 Earned Runs Allowed (-140)

Brandon Woodruff watched teammate Corbin Burnes tie an MLB record last night by striking out 10 consecutive batters in the Milwaukee Brewers' win over the listless Chicago Cubs. So, the question is, how does Woodruff follow that amazing performance?

Well, for starters, Woodruff has been one of the best starters in the National League all season long. The right-hander owns a 2.23 ERA, a 0.89 WHIP, and limits opponents to a .188 batting average.

Now, he faces a Cubs team that ranks 28th in batting average and 24th in OPS when facing right-handed pitchers. A Cubs team that Woodruff has faced three times this season and has given up a total of three runs on eight hits over 19 innings. And that was before the mass exodus.

On top of that, The Cubs are scoring just 3.3 runs per game over their last 10 and Woodruff has allowed two earned runs or fewer in 17 of his 22 starts this season. So, we are betting him to improve on that number tonight.

Giants -0.5 Five-Inning Runline (-110)

The Colorado Rockies are on the road, playing one of the best teams in baseball in the San Francisco Giants. You need more info than that?

OK. Well, for those who don’t know, the Rockies are an atrocious 13-42 when playing away from Coors Field this season. They rank dead last in scoring, batting average, and OPS in road games, and by a fairly wide margin.

They face Giants starter Logan Webb, and the right-hander is in a groove right now, pitching to a 2.10 ERA and limiting opponents to .200 batting in six starts since coming off the IL. That includes starts against the Dodgers (two) and Astros, two of the best lineups in baseball.

I know German Marquez is the Rockies’ best starter, but his ERA bumps up to 4.00, and is giving up a .244 batting average in away games. But more importantly, the Giants have owned Marquez this season.

Marquez has made three starts against the Giants this season and San Fran has lit him up for a 13.06 ERA and a 2.32 WHIP. Take the Giants to have a lead through five.

  • Brandon Woodruff Under 2.5 Earned Runs Allowed (-140)
  • Giants -0.5 Five-Inning Runline (-110)

It’s not an interesting story. Seriously.
