Today’s MLB Prop Bets, Picks and Predictions: Cash In On Berrios' Strikeout Prowess At Home

Jose Berrios has 26 strikeouts over his last three starts and is paying plus money to go over his 6.5-K total today. We love that value, which highlights our best MLB prop bets for Saturday.

The MLB's second half is underway with the playoff push of the late summer months just around the corner. We've got a busy Saturday in the baseball world, and we've found some of the best MLB props and side bets for the day, doing all the heavy lifting so you don’t have to!

If there’s a line on it, we’ll look into it.

We’re summarizing today’s trio of plus-money prop bets in four words or less: Honk if you’re Harvey, no long balls here, and come Jose with me.

Check out our favorite MLB free prop bets and predictions for Saturday, July 24, 2021.

Today’s MLB props and picks

Washington Over 0.5 first-inning runs (+135)

Baltimore’s Matt Harvey is coming off his only scoreless start of the year... and is still sporting a 7.13 ERA and 10 losses on the year. On Saturday, he’ll face the Nationals, who have scored just two runs over their last two games but should get back on track after scoring 44 runs in their prior five games following the break.

Harvey has allowed a run in the first inning in 14 of his 19 starts (74 percent) with batters sporting a .929 OPS off of the right-hander in the game’s first frame. The Nationals are scoring the second-most first-inning runs in baseball at 0.75, which is an incredible number considering they only plate 4.35 per game. Washington has scored three times in the first inning through seven second-half games.

The Nationals are paying +135 to score in the first inning but if you’re looking for a little more action on a first-inning play, a run to score in the first inning (either team) is paying -152. Leadoff hitters have a .915 OPS against Washington starter Max Scherzer but with a 2.60 first-inning ERA and just five first-frame runs allowed in 18 starts, we’re taking the plus-money option of Washington scoring a run in the first.

White Sox vs Brewers —  No home run scored (+250)

The Chicago White Sox and Milwaukee Brewers have the lowest total on the board Saturday at a flat 7. With a pair of sub-2.20 ERA starters in Carlos Rodon and Corbin Burnes, runs will be at a premium in Wisconsin.

Looking at the first home run prop board, we see a solo home run at -105 but no home run scored is packing some value at +250.

Rodon has only allowed one home run over his last seven starts, as the 28-year-old is creeping up the AL Cy Young betting board. On the year, Rodon has 0.65 HR/9, which is a Top-10 mark in all of baseball. If Rodon can hand over the ball in the 8th, we like the chances of the Brewers — who sit in the bottom half of the league in home runs per game — in failing to go yard.

Corbin Burnes has been even stingier in the home run department, surrendering just one four-bagger over his last nine starts and just three across his 96 innings of action. His 0.28 HR/9 mark is the best in baseball by a long shot.

It might not be the most exciting prop to follow, but +250 for zero home runs with two of the best home-run-suppressing pitchers in baseball is a deal in our eyes.

Jose Berrios Over 6.5 strikeouts (+122)

Minnesota’s Jose Berrios has collected 26 total punchouts over his last three starts, despite allowing 10 runs in 20 innings of work. He has topped 6.5 strikeouts in four of his last five outings and each of his last five home starts.

At Target Field, Berrios has been much more formidable as his 11.3 K/9 at home is more than three strikeouts better than his road numbers. He’s faced the Angels once this year and struck out seven over five innings.

With the deadline coming, there is a chance that Minnesota doesn’t let him go too far, but with his total outs recorded prop at 17.5 and paying -190, we doubt we’ll have to worry about him getting in less than six innings.

Shohei Ohtani has stumbled out of the gates of the second half, striking out 14 times in 27 plate appearances. The Angels are also drawing the fewest walks per game since the break, which should go a long way in keeping Berrios’ pitch count in check.

MLB betting card for July 24

  • Washington Over 0.5 first-inning runs (+135)
  • White Sox vs Brewers —  No home run scored (+250)
  • Jose Berrios Over 6.5 strikeouts (+122)
