Today’s MLB props and picks

Marlins vs Pirates First Five Innings Under 4.5 (-130)

There might not be much reason to tune into this matchup between two clubs at the bottom of their respective divisions but this clash of cellar-dwellers does present some juicy odds for Under bettors.

The Pirates are the lowest-scoring team in the majors, plating just 3.60 runs per game, while their OPS of .651 ranks second-worst. The Buccos did erupt for 17 runs over their last two games but with their track record, regression seems likely.

The Marlins are only marginally better offensively than Pittsburgh, posting a .664 OPS. And they have really struggled in the early going, ranking dead-last in the majors in runs scored per game through the first five innings with just 1.84.

Expect a low-scoring first five innings in this contest and take the Under.

Trevor Bauer Earned Runs Under 2.5 (-120)

Dodgers fireballer Trevor Bauer is coming off his worst performance of the season, surrendering three earned runs on three dingers in 6 2-3 innings against the Cardinals last Monday. But frankly, we don't care.

Not only did the right-hander win the Cy Young Award a year ago with a dominant campaign with the Reds but he has been outstanding for the Dodgers this year, pitching to a 2.24 ERA, 0.83 WHIP, and 96 strikeouts in 76 1-3 innings.

Before his start against the Cards last Monday, Bauer had allowed two earned runs or fewer in ten consecutive starts. Expect him to bounce back with a big performance today and back the Under 2.5 on his earned runs allowed.

Giants Team Total Over 3.5 (-120)

The San Francisco Giants are surging, sitting atop the NL West with a 37-21 record and winning nine of their last 11 games. This afternoon they will be hosting the Chicago Cubs and starter Kyle Hendricks.

Hendricks has looked shaky this season, pitching to a 4.62 ERA with a 1.40 WHIP and an opponent batting average of .296.

Even over the last two seasons, while Hendricks put up much better overall numbers he still struggled on the road, pitching to a 4.06 ERA with an OBA of .287 in six road starts in 2020, and a 5.02 ERA with an OBA of .290 in 16 starts in 2019.

Now he has to face off against a San Fran team that has been red-hot at the plate, posting an OPS of .811 over the last 15 days and averaging 6 runs per game over its last 11 contests.

With the Giants plating at least four runs in eight of their previous 10 games, their team total for today seems ripe for the picking.
