Today’s best MLB prop bets
Scherzer serves
Future Hall-of-Famer Max Scherzer doesn't appear to be slowing down with age and has anchored the Mets rotation, going 4-0 with a 2.61 ERA and a 0.81 WHIP. The Mets and Scherzer are facing off against the Phillies tonight — already his third start against them this season.
Scherzer actually struggled against the Phillies in his previous start on Sunday, surrendering three dingers and four runs in six innings. That said, he still fanned nine batters in that contest and has now racked up 36 punchouts through 25 innings in his last four starts.
Mad Max has been one of baseball's best strikeout artists for years, averaging an incredible 12.2 strikeouts per nine innings since the start of the 2017 campaign. He's also had plenty of success versus the Phillies, going 16-4 with a 2.60 ERA and 217 strikeouts in 169 2-3 career innings against them.
The Phillies have been one of the better hitting teams in the majors but they rank just 16th in strikeout percentage (22.8%) and have been even worse against righties like Scherzer. We're backing the Over 6.5 on Scherzer's strikeouts at plus money.
Pick: Max Scherzer Over 6.5 strikeouts (+106)
Cedric the Entertainer
The Baltimore Orioles remain one of the worst offensive teams in the majors, but outfielder Cedric Mullins can't be blamed for that.
The 27-year-old had a breakout campaign with the O's last year, slashing .291/.360/.518 with 30 home runs and 37 doubles. After a bit of a slow start to this season, Mullins has caught on fire over the last week, batting .385 with an OPS of 1.177, four doubles, and a pair of dingers in six games.
Mullins won't be facing a tough matchup on the mound today, with the Royals giving the ball to Carlos Hernandez. The 25-year-old has pitched to a 6.00 ERA with a 1.89 WHIP and an OBA of .313 in four starts this season. The Royals bullpen has been awful as well, ranking 28th in the majors in both ERA (4.85) and WHIP (1.46).
With Mullins racking up at least two total bases in five of his last six games, take the Over 1.5 on his total bases tonight.
Pick: Cedric Mullins Over 1.5 total bases (+130 at Caesars)
Chicks dig the Wong ball
Sometimes a number just seems a bit off and that appears to be the case for Kolten Wong's hits total today.
The Brewers second baseman got off to a rough start to the season but has been hot lately, batting .367 over his last eight games and racking up a pair of hits against the Braves yesterday. The leadoff hitter has been reliable if unspectacular at the plate for years and hit .272 with 121 hits in 116 games last season.
Braves starter Max Fried has looked very sharp lately but he's not unhittable and Wong generally does a good job of making contact against fellow lefties, batting .293 versus southpaws over the last three years.
With Wong picking up at least a hit in seven of his last eight games we're taking the Over 0.5 on his hits total today.
Pick: Kolten Wong to record a hit (-135 a FanDuel)
