At least the Los Angeles Angels are decent in Anaheim.

For an underwhelming franchise, going 16-18 at home is at least decent enough to entertain the home fans.

That should continue tonight against the Boston Red Sox. Boston struggles on the road, and sending Walker Buehler to the mound hardly inspires confidence.

My Red Sox vs. Angels predictions and MLB picks take the value in the home team’s moneyline. First pitch comes at 9:38 ET on Monday, June 23.

My Red Sox vs Angels best bet: Angels moneyline (+100 at Caesars)

Walker Buehler has given up 21 earned runs in his last four starts, throwing just 18 innings. Facing a Los Angeles Angels lineup that seems to thrive a bit against right-handers, that trend could continue for Buehler.

Meanwhile, Jack Kochanowicz has thrown well in his last two starts. Yes, that is a small sample size, but holding the Yankees to two runs through 5.1 innings last week stands out. His eight strikeouts were an emphatic showing, all in the familiar confines of Anaheim.

When the home team has a pitching edge, it should not be even money. This bet can be that simple.

But to add a bit more context to it, every Boston Red Sox batting statistic is worse against righties than southpaws, and it is not like Boston is swinging well right now, anyway. The Red Sox have averaged just three runs per game in their last nine.

Facing a righthander could amplify those recent struggles. And Buehler absolutely cannot be counted on to turn this into a pitcher’s duel.

Caesars QuickPick: Our Red Sox vs Angels same-game parlay (SGP)

Angels moneyline

Walker Buehler Under 4.5 strikeouts

Jack Kochanowicz Over 4.5 strikeouts

Unlike most pitching props, Caesars allows strikeouts to be included in most same-game parlays, and they can serve as proxies here, all tied to the original handicap.

If Buehler continues to cough up runs, he may not be in the game long enough to even think about a fifth strikeout, especially not with Boston’s bullpen having thrown just four innings in the last two games.

And if Buehler coughs up runs, that will afford Los Angeles a longer leash for Kochanowicz.

Douglas Farmer spends his days thinking about college football and his nights thinking about the NBA. His betting habits and coverage follow that same pattern. He covered Notre Dame football for various outlets from 2008 to 2024, most notably spending eight seasons as NBC Sports’ beat writer on the Irish. That was also when his gambling focus took off. Knowing there were veteran beat writers with three decades more experience than he had, Douglas found his niche by best recognizing Notre Dame’s standing in each year’s national landscape, a complex tapestry most easily understood and remembered via betting odds.

In 2021, that interest created a freelance opportunity with Covers, a role that eventually led to Douglas joining the company full-time in 2023. In the fall, Douglas will place five or six dozen bets each week, a disproportionate amount via BetRivers because the operator tends to have lines slightly different than the rest of the market. The same can be said of Circa Sports’ futures markets.

While Douglas is an avid NBA fan and covers the league throughout the year, the vast majority of his bets are on college football, because that is the biggest key to sports betting: Know what you do not know.
