NBA Sharp Money and Line Movement Report

By Patrick Everson

The Heat hit the FanDuel odds board as 4.5-point home favorites, and the line initially dipped to -4 before rebounding to -5, where it sits at 4 p.m. ET, four ahours ahead of game time. It's two-way action on the point spread, with Miami getting 51 percent of bets and 57 percent of cash. The total is down to 213.5 from a 215.5 opener, with 57 percent of bets on the Over, but money running dead even.

Against the Spread (ATS) Pick

With the Clippers without three of their best players — and two of the top players in the league — this line is suspiciously low, even if the Heat have struggled this season. With that said, backing Los Angeles just might be the move in this one.

It’s definitely a bit tough going against the team with the best player on the floor, and Bam Adebayo is certainly that. The Miami center is averaging 20.3 points, 8.9 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game this season. He also had a career-high 41 points on Saturday against the Brooklyn Nets. But, for what it’s worth, the Clippers do have some nice size to throw at him, so he won’t be able to get it going as easily in this game.

The Heat’s defense is also just disastrous right now, with seemingly everybody snapping out of stretches of bad play against them. The Clippers might be without a few stars, but they still have guys like Serge Ibaka, Lou Williams and Reggie Jackson. All three are capable of getting it going on occasion. Terance Mann has always played well when given extended minutes too, so he should be in for a nice performance here.

PREDICTION: Clippers +4.5 (-110)

Over/Under Pick

The Clippers aren’t at full strength right now, but they should still be able to put up some points against a Heat D that is only 22nd in the NBA in defensive rating. Meanwhile, the Clippers are 12th in that regard and they will be without some of the top defenders in the World. That means that a Miami team that has struggled this season should be able to get it going offensively. It could also mean a decent amount of good looks for Duncan Robinson, one of the best shooters in the NBA.

PREDICTION: Over 215.5 (-110)

Player Prop Pick

Until the Clippers get Paul George and Kawhi Leonard back and at 100 percent, Luke Kennard player props are going to be pretty valuable. While Kennard hasn’t yet taken advantage of an increased role, the opportunity has been there. That’s especially true of his last game, when he took 13 shots against the Atlanta Hawks, almost twice his season average (6.9 FGA per game).

The Heat have also been miserable defensively this season, so you just couldn’t ask for a better matchup here.

PREDICTION: Luke Kennard Over 14.5 Points (+100)

Clippers vs Heat Betting Card

  • Clippers +4.5 (-110)
  • Over 215.5 (-110)
  • Luke Kennard Over 14.5 Points (+100)
