Fresh off a blowout win over the Knicks, the Hornets will look to add a second straight victory when they visit the Western Conference’s top seed.
My Hornets vs Thunder predictions expect the visiting Hornets — led by Miles Bridges — to cover their biggest spread of the season when they travel to Paycom Center to face the Thunder.
Read my NBA picks to see why I’m backing Bridges and taking the Hornets and the points.
Hornets vs Thunder prediction
My best bet: Miles Bridges Over 35.5 pts + reb + ast (-115 at bet365)
My analysis
Miles Bridges is enjoying a productive season averaging 21 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 3.9 assists, good for 32.7 PRA. He’s played well all season, but his productivity has taken a noticeable jump since returning from the All-Star break. Bridges’ numbers have come up, but this combo line hasn’t yet risen to meet it, and I’m ready to cash in.
Prior to the break, Bridges averaged 19.5 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 3.8 assists, but he’s posted 24.4 points, 8.1 rebounds and 4.1 assists in 16 games since returning from the break. Bridges went for at least 36 PRA in just 10 of his first 38 games, but he’s reached that mark in nine of the last 16.
Over his last 11, Bridges has been on a real heater, averaging 38.5 PRA and hitting the Over eight times. That includes his game against the Clippers on March 16 in which he logged just 25 minutes.
LaMelo Ball isn’t on the injury report yet, but he hasn’t played both legs of a back-to-back set since November, and the Charlotte Hornets played last night. There’s a good chance Ball is sidelined against the Oklahoma City Thunder, which means an even larger workload for Bridges.
Bridges has averaged 31.1 PRA in 38 games played with Ball this season and 36.7 in 16 games without him. Bridges hit the Over in nine of those 16 with PRA totals of 34 and 35 in two more games. Of those 16, one was his matchup with the Thunder on December 28 in which he posted 35.
OKC has allowed opposing PFs to average 35.7 PRA per game this season, including 36.4 across their last seven. Expect another strong showing from Bridges when he leads his team tonight as the biggest underdog of the season.
Hornets vs Thunder same-game parlay
Oklahoma City is 44-22-4 ATS this season, but Charlotte has been solid with a 35-32-2 record. The Hornets have won four of their last eight and covered five times in that span. The Hornets are 16-13-1 as the road dog and 3-1 as an underdog of 15 points or more. That includes a 2-1 ATS spread record as 15-point road dogs. The Thunder are 5-5 ATS when favored by at least 15 points. This is the largest spread that either team has faced this season, but I’ll back the road team to keep it close enough to cash.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander leads the NBA in scoring at 33 points per game. He leads the Association in 30-point games at 43, and the next closest player is Giannis Antetokounmpo with 32 such games. The Hornets have allowed 27.4 points per game to PGs across their last seven, and Gilgeous-Alexander should be able to clear this alt line in a favorable home matchup.
