Jazz vs Suns picks and predictions
Our predictions are compiled from the analysis of the spread and total and are indications of where we are leaning for this game.
Our best bet is the play that we like the most for this game, which we would actually put some of our bankroll behind.
Spread analysis
The Jazz will be without the best rim protector in basketball with Rudy Gobert expected to miss Monday's clash in the desert. And considering Hassan Whiteside is banged up, Utah doesn’t exactly have a great option to replace him down low. That means the Suns are going to have some free runs at the basket, and it’s hard to imagine Phoenix not having some real success when attacking the rim.
Look for Devin Booker to put a lot of pressure on the basket with his ability to get by his defender and finish, and don’t be surprised if Mikal Bridges also has a big game. Bridges is a great off-ball cutter and is a tremendous finisher at the basket. Without Gobert planted in the paint, both guys will want to get to the rim extremely often.
Utah is going to be missing Donovan Mitchell (concussion), which will make things even easier for Booker and Chris Paul, who should absolutely cook the Jazz backcourt. Quin Snyder’s depleted lineup simply won't be able to keep up with the Suns' scoring. Somebody like Jordan Clarkson is going to have to step it up and try to keep Utah in it, but Clarkson can be rather inefficient and Phoenix is one of the best defensive teams in the league. The Suns will have a plan in place to keep Mike Conley and Clarkson from beating them.
Overall, this should be an ugly outing with the disparity in talent out there. The Suns are actually 12-2 ATS when coming off a game against an Eastern Conference opponent this year, and they have won those games by an average of 11.5 points per game. That has mostly been against opponents at full strength, so they should beat down Utah's skeleton crew.
Prediction: Suns -9 (-110)
Over/Under analysis
With Gobert sidelined, the Jazz will have a hard time stopping the Suns from scoring at will. Phoenix has averaged 118 points per game over the last five contests, with the team shooting at least 45.0% from the floor in each of its last six. That’s just not likely to change with the Jazz on deck, and that will make it hard for this Over not to hit here.
The Over is 9-1 when Utah is coming off back-to-back games of allowing 105 or fewer points this season, and the average total points scored in those games is 232.2. The Over is also 21-9 when the Suns are playing at home after winning their previous game at home since the start of last season.
Prediction: Over 222 (-110)
Best bet
Booker was absolutely rolling before going 5 for 23 from the floor and 0 for 6 from the outside in Saturday’s win over the Indiana Pacers. Booker is one of the most competitive players in the league, so he’s not going to like sitting on that performance for too long. With that in mind, look for Booker to get back on track against the Jazz.
Booker averaged 30.3 points per game in three meetings with Utah last season, and there’s no reason to believe he won’t go for 30 again at home tonight. The Suns need him to raise his game with guys like Payne, Crowder, and Ayton out.
Pick: Devin Booker Over 27.5 points (-105)
