Kings vs Suns Odds, Picks, and Predictions Tonight: Durant Does It All on Offense

The Phoenix Suns are finally healthy and finding their stride, and Kevin Durant should be a beneficiary tonight. With the Sacramento Kings dealing with an injury to Keegan Murray, it could open the door for the small forward to dominate.

De’Aaron Fox and the Sacramento Kings will travel to the Valley to take on Kevin Durant and the Phoenix Suns in a Pacific Division showdown, and we have searched through the top NBA odds to find you the best bet for this matchup.

With Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal all healthy, the Suns have begun to resemble the team we were promised when the season started. As a side note, I recently grabbed them at +1,400 to win the NBA Championship at Caesars.

On the other hand, the Kings currently hold one of the coveted top six spots in the Western Conference standings, and it sounds like they are going to make a splash at the trade deadline to ensure they stay there.

Speaking of splashes at the trade deadline, find out why I’m backing a Durant points prop in my free NBA picks and predictions for Kings vs. Suns on Tuesday, January 16th.

Kings vs Suns predictions

Targeting a points prop within any Big 3 in the past can be tricky because the argument could be made that we don’t necessarily know which of Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, or Bradley Beal will pop off on any given night for the Phoenix Suns. However, I think we have a little more clarity on tonight's picture due to an injury on the Sacramento Kings roster.

A matchup between the Suns and Kings is always going to be a high-scoring one, as neither team is looking to win a championship with defense. That being said, Keegan Murray is questionable for the Kings with a hip injury. Murray left the Kings' previous game against the Milwaukee Bucks on Sunday, and Trey Lyles started at halftime.

For a Kings roster that already struggles to play defense, the switch from Murray to Lyles is a big downgrade that could be magnified by Durant, whom Murray most likely would’ve been guarding. The Suns won't even have to run many actions to create an offensive advantage for Durant and he will already have one over his initial defender, whether that be Lyles or Harrison Barnes.

The Suns also present a nightmare situation because not only do the Kings not have someone to match up with Durant now, but you can’t necessarily send a ton of help Durant’s way, given the advantage of also having Beal and Booker on the floor. Is it possible that Booker and Beal eat into Durant's field goal attempts? Always, but they are also the reasons Durant will have space to operate and be able to exploit his mismatch. It’s also why a player who is averaging 29 points per game on the season is trading with a total of 26.5.

Durant is projected to score 28.7 points against the Kings on Tuesday, which allows us to price the Over 26.5 at -145, but it is available at BetMGM at -110. Based on this projection, this bet is showing a positive expected value of 13%.

My best bet: Kevin Durant Over 26.5 points (-110 at BetMGM) 33% boost available

Kings vs Suns same-game parlay

Kevin Durant Over 26.5 points

De'Aaron Fox Over 4.5 assists

Harrison Barnes Over 9.5 points

Durant Over 26.5 points isn't the only bet I have in this matchup between the Kings and Suns. I also have De'Aaron Fox to go over his total of 4.5 assists, and you can find a complete breakdown of that bet in our best NBA player props article today. The Fox assists bet doesn’t necessarily correlate to the Durant wager, but I love the edge we are seeing in his price on Tuesday.

The third leg of this parlay also correlates to the Fox assists bet but also the Durant points prop. For Fox to go over his assists total on Tuesday, we could use some help from Harrison Barnes knocking down some jump shots. I also highlighted the injury to Murray as a reason why I like Durant to go over his points prop. If Murray is officially ruled out, the Kings will have to rely on more minutes from Barnes, and this points prop will see a nice boost from the news. Essentially, Murray being ruled out will help both our Barnes prop and our Durant prop in different ways.

Kings vs Suns spread and Over/Under analysis

The Suns opened as a 4-point favorite at FanDuel, and while we saw it touch as high as Suns -5.5, that number has since been bet back to the opening line of Suns -4. Make sure to shop around for the best number on this spread, as we are seeing a split decision in the market on Suns -4 and Suns -4.5.

The total opened at 243.5 at DraftKings, and similar to the spread, we have seen it bounce around, moving towards the Under and back to the Over, with it now trading at 244. There’s no consensus in the market on the total yet, as you can find anywhere from 243.5 to 244.5.
