The New York Knicks finally got back on track with their first win since Jalen Brunson’s injury, taking out the Sacramento Kings on Monday, and now have the opportunity to build some belief against a vulnerable Portland Trail Blazers team on the road.

With some injuries hitting Portland hard, our Knicks vs. Trail Blazers predictions will explain why New York should continue to hold strong defensively and earn a comfortable win.

Let’s dig into some NBA player props and hand out our best NBA picks for Wednesday, March 12.

Knicks vs Trail Blazers prediction

My best bet: Knicks -4 (-110 at bet365)

My analysis
The New York Knicks have lost a lot of their steam offensively without Jalen Brunson, but not all hope is lost. This team has still played Top 5 defense in the month of March, and judging by Brunson’s on/off splits there’s no reason why they can’t keep this up.

New York was able to suffocate a hot Kings offense on Monday to earn a much-needed win, leaning on the improvements Brunson’s absence will lead to in defending the mid-range, and now it will meet the eighth-worst offense this month.

The Portland Trail Blazers have leaned heavily on shots both at the rim and from the arc, but they continue to struggle with outside shooting and have now fallen off a cliff inside with the fourth-worst field goal percentage at the rim this month.

The Trail Blazers will continue to lack a presence in the frontcourt as long as Deandre Ayton remains out, and on top of that they will likely not have Jerami Grant at the power forward position and Robert Williams to shore up the center position.

We know the Knicks will be relying heavily upon Karl-Anthony Towns to score the ball in Brunson’s absence, and while the Trail Blazers have been excellent at defending the rim in Ayton’s absence, the other losses listed above will open the door for him to score the ball a bit better than forecasted.

New York’s remained committed to shooting the ball from deep, too, and against a Trail Blazers defense which has been abysmal around the arc, I believe this game should suit it quite well.

Knicks vs Trail Blazers same-game parlay

Knicks -3.5

Josh Hart Over 1.5 made threes

Karl-Anthony Towns Over 2.5 assists

Josh Hart has now taken four or more 3-pointers in four straight games in an effort to work on his jumper in a seemingly lost period of the season for the Knicks — especially now that Brunson is hurt. He’s cashed in two times in his last three games, shooting 43.8% over that time, and will take aim at one of the worst perimeter defenses in basketball.

Hart should be locked into big minutes here to make up for the loss of Brunson, and this is a sneaky way to bet on him.

Towns isn’t exactly known for his passing proficiency, but he’s now hit this number in two of his three games without Brunson this year and should be finding at least a little bit of resistance inside when Donovan Clingan is on the floor. With the 3-point line standing as the easiest avenue for offense, I expect him to kick the ball out into plenty of jumpers.
