Today’s NBA Player Prop Picks: Vassell Snipes Helpless Blazers

While it's fun to root for the NBA's stars, the amount of injuries we've seen this season has created opportunities for some lesser-known guys, like San Antonio's Devin Vassell, one of our NBA player prop picks for Wednesday.

Today’s best NBA player props

Clint rebounds

It was a swing and a miss with Wendell Carter Jr. to record a double-double yesterday, but tonight we’ve found a big man double-double with even more value as Clint Capela and the Atlanta Hawks visit the Detroit Pistons.

Capela is coming off a rough night against the New York Knicks, but he has been a double-double machine lately and gets a great matchup for him to bounce back in.

The Hawks’ big man is averaging 11.5 points and 10.5 rebounds over his last 11 games, recording six double-doubles over that stretch. Three of the misses over that stretch came by one point, one rebound, and two points.

Now, he faces a Pistons team that has been playing much better of late but still ranks 23rd in defensive rating and continues to struggle on the inside. Detroit ranks dead last in the NBA in rebounding percentage and 23rd in opponent points in the paint.

Capela also missed a double-double against the Pistons by just one rebound back on March 7 when he put up 12 points and nine boards. So, Capela should put in some good work here with the plus money on his double-double the kicker that puts it over the top.

Pick: Clint Capela double-double – Yes (+110)

Powell power

Betting NBA player props is all about looking for the right opportunities for players to take advantage of, and Dwight Powell fits the bill when he and the Dallas Mavericks host the Houston Rockets on Wednesday night.

The Mavericks will be without superstar Luka Doncic for tonight’s game, not to mention, Tim Hardaway Jr. remains out with a foot injury. So, obviously, that means more opportunities for guys like Jalen Brunson and Spencer Dinwiddie, but it’s Powell with the best number here.

Despite the fact the Mavs’ power forward averages just 8.2 points per game this season, he has stepped up when called upon and that has happened more often since the All-Star break. In his 13 games since coming out of the break, he is averaging 11.9 points per game.

But it’s opportunity plus matchup that makes this an intriguing play because Houston sure has a problem when it comes to defending the interior. In fact, the Rockets rank dead last in the NBA in terms of opponent points in the paint per game.

Powell was a problem for the Rockets the last time they met as well, putting up 26 points in 31 minutes of action in a game Doncic played but Brunson missed. Powell should get plenty of looks in this one and go Over his point total.

Pick: Dwight Powell Over 13.5 points (-120)

Devin the Dude

Another player with more opportunities lately has been the San Antonio Spurs’ Devin Vassell. The small forward has been thrust into a starting role since the trade deadline and has really started to jack up more threes since the All-Star break. He’ll get a great chance to keep doing that when the Spurs visit the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday night.

Vassell is now taking 5.9 threes per game since coming out of the break, shooting a respectable 35.2 % from long range in those 12 games. But he has been even better over the last five games, shooting 38.7% and hitting on 6.2 attempts, and has hit three or more triples three times over that stretch.

Now, he faces a Trail Blazers team that is in shambles at the moment. They recently announced Dame Lillard is out for the season and are dealing with a ton of other injuries at the moment, including ones to Anfernee S+115immons and Josh Hart.

That’s not great for an already-struggling Blazers’ perimeter defense. Portland ranks dead last in opponent 3-point shooting percentage while ranking 24th in opponent 3-point attempts per game.

This is another get where getting plus-money makes it too good to pass up. Bet on Vassell to keep letting it fly in this one as a bunch of Spurs shooters are sidelined as well.

Pick: Devin Vassell Over 2.5 made threes (+115)
